In the state of Georgia having your high school diploma ensures you are able to attend higher educational institutions or ensures you have higher pay. If you were unable to complete your high school education, you may still receive a high school equivalency diploma, which is known as a General Educational Development Diploma or GED. The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education oversees the GED testing process, and it states that by completing and passing the GED exam you can receive a $500 HOPE voucher to assist in higher education costs.
Georgia GED Test Guidelines:
To take the Georgia GED exam, you must meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the GED Testing Service and the Technical College System of Georgia Office of Adult Literacy.
The minimum age to take the Georgia GED test is 16 years of age, and you must not be currently enrolled in a high school or have previously received a standard high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma.
The state of Georgia does not require test takers to be a Georgia resident to take the Georgia GED exam; however, in order to receive the $500 HOPE voucher you must be a Georgia resident.
To register for the Georgia GED test you must be able to prove your identity by providing the testing facility with a photo identification document. This may be a Georgia driver’s license or identification card. If you are not a Georgia resident, then a state-issued photo identification card will be sufficient.
After you have been cleared to take the Georgia GED test, you must then pay the testing fee, which is determined on a local level. The state of Georgia does regulate the maximum fee to take this examination. As of 2011, no Georgia GED Testing facility may charge more than $95 for all five sections. Passing the Georgia GED Test:
To pass the Georgia GED examination you must be able to successfully pass all five of the GED sections. The main subject areas found within the Georgia GED examination include: Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Reading and Writing. The GED exam consists of multiple-choice questions and written essays.
In order to fully pass the Georgia GED examination you must score a minimum of 410 on each of the five sections and have an average score of 450 for each section. The minimum total passing score for the Georgia GED examination is 2250. If you do not pass one or all of the sections, you may retest; however, your scores will determine the wait time necessary to retake the Georgia GED test.
