Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Permanent Color Cream Vs. L’Oreal Superior Preference

Going Gray

Hair color is important for women. Like it or not, our hair says a lot about us, especially if gray is involved. The wrong color or glimpses of gray can age us before our time. A glossy, radiant head of vibrantly colored hair, however, can cut ten years or more off our appearance and give us that youthful presence.

When you don’t want to spend exorbitant amounts at the beauty salon for fancy coloring, doing it yourself is the way to go. Not only is it quite a bit cheaper, but it also saves time. No need to book an appointment. Just wake up 20 minutes earlier and color your hair while you’re doing other things around the house. Depending on the look you’re trying to achieve, the goal is to find a reasonably priced product that delivers great, natural looking color and offers 100% gray coverage (if you need it).

L’Oreal’s packaging may describe the product as ‘superior’, but it isn’t, at least not in my experience as compared to Garnier Nutrisse.

Color Options. Both brands have a nice range of color choices. Years ago, hair color was not as sophisticated. You just couldn’t get something that looked natural no matter which product you went with. Today, the technology built into the product development has created color that is very attractive and natural looking, assuming you choose a color that is compatible with your complexion and skin tone.

Ease of Use. Again, both brands do pretty well in terms of ease of use. Both have clear, multi-lingual instructions. Both provide gloves, and the bottles are easy to manipulate. Garnier has the extra step of adding the fruit oil concentrate, but it’s super simple to do. It doesn’t even add a minute to the process, and the oil significantly enhances the quality of the color. Where Garnier really stands out, though, is in the texture of the color. Their product turns into a thick, rich cream. It’s almost voluptuous. As a result, dripping is minimal. L’Oreal’s product tends to be thinner and runny. I want my hair color on my hair; I don’t want to be blinking drips out of my eyes while I try to make sure I’ve applied the color evenly.

Smell. Garnier trumps L’Oreal here. The fruit oil concentrate has a wonderful fresh smell. Unlike L’Oreal’s product, the medicinal odor is nowhere to be found using Garnier Nutrisse, and there’s no stinging in the eyes. Smell seems like such an inconsequential thing. But, when something smells good, it makes the process so much more enjoyable. And, when something smells bad, the effort becomes grueling. Who wants to feel like they’re suffering when they color their hair? Use Garnier Nutrisse, and you won’t. Between the rich cream and the nice fragrance, you’ll feel like you’re getting a salon treatment at home.

Gray Coverage. This is where Garnier truly shines. I started going gray at the age of 22. Yikes! It was awful, and it just got worse. Now, at the age of 37, I’m nearly all gray. Not pretty! And, as many of you know, covering gray is hard work. Gray hair is notoriously resistant to color. I have to color my hair at least once a month, if not every three weeks, just to keep the gray out of my temples and part. Garnier Nutrisse provides the best coverage of any the products I’ve used. When I used L’Oreal before, within a couple of days, the grays were back. It was disheartening. I didn’t want to damage my hair by coloring too frequently, so I had to wait with those nasty grays showing up right off the bat. What’s the point in that?! Garnier Nutrisse keeps my grays solidly at bay until the next time I color. It’s terrific!

Using Garnier Nutrisse, I’m confident that not only will have a wonderful, natural looking hair color, but I also won’t have any grays showing. Perfect!
