Garden Party Game Ideas for Spring

Garden Party, Garden Party Ideas, Party Game Ideas

Planning a garden party for mixed company this spring and need a few ideas on garden party games and activities? Here are my top four garden party game ideas for spring.

April Showers Game

The object of the April Showers Game is to stand from a designated throw line and pitch as many fake flowers into the upturned umbrella as possible within the time allowed. The person who gets the most flowers into the upside down umbrella wins.

To set up the game you will need to purchase a large, clear umbrella, colored masking tape, fishing line and at least two dozen fabric or plastic flowers.

Once you have all the necessary items in front of you turn the umbrella upside down. Take the fishing line and attach one end to the umbrella’s handle and the other to the ceiling. When you are finished the umbrella should be suspended half way between the ceiling and the floor. If you are having the party outside hanging the upside down umbrella from a high tree limb will suffice.

Once the upturned umbrella is in position, use the colored masking table to mark your throw lines. Depending on the type of fake flowers purchased, you may need to remove part or all of the stems to make them suitable for tossing.

Scents Specialist Game

The object of the Scents Specialist Game is to correctly identify the most flowers and herbs from smell alone. This game may also be modified to include a blind taste testing segment as well.

To set up the game you will need to purchase some blind folds and several different floral scented oils for sniffing.

Once you have the blind folds and scents together, all you will need to do is set up a table where the contestants may sit while they try to correctly identify the various scents. Depending on how many scents and contestants you plan on having, you may want to keep a pen and paper handy for scoring purposes.

Flower Walk Game

The object of the Flower Walk Game is similar to an old-fashioned cake walk. The party guests walk in a Conga line while music is being played. When the music stops the person who is standing on the marked garden stone wins a prize. You may opt to use flower shaped cakes or non-edible, garden themed prizes for this game.

Set up of the Flower Walk Game is extremely easy. All you will need is colorful masking tape to mark the winning spot and a music CD.

Arts and Crafts

If playing games is not your cup of tea, you may want to consider giving your party guests an opportunity to get crafty. Most major craft stores, dollar stores and wholesale party suppliers have a good supply of inexpensive craft items.

Some garden party craft ideas include creating sun bonnets, dried fruit garlands, decorative flower pots, decorative garden signs, potpourri sachets and totes.
