We ordered take out from Galangal last night. They offer free delivery with a $15.00 purchase. We were all very pleased with the Thai restaurant.
Galangal is a Thai restaurant. It is located at 35 Atlantic Street in Stamford, CT. I was the one who called in our orders. Their number is 203-348-0340.
A pleasant sounding woman was on the other end. Before she took my order she asked where the food was being delivered and the phone number. I then told her we would be spending more than $50; that the menu was picked up two months’ ago since we just moved to Stamford (Our daughter and son-in-law had.) and that there were coupons on the menu; however these expired in December, 2006. I asked her if they could still be used since they are in Galangal’s current menu. She told me several times that they had expired, which I knew and no they couldn’t be used. This always irks me. They need to get new menus!
After I gave her our order I was told it would be about one hour. In about 40 minutes the doorbell rang. I got Fresh Garlic Shrimp for $16.50; with chicken it’s $13.50. The sauce was just tasty enough without having too much garlic. The menu says “Thai white peppers.” The dish was loaded with diced carrots as well and a bit of light very thin noodles. There were five very large shrimp.
Everyone else thought their food very good as well. My daughter and son-in-law both got soup. One got Tom Yum Goong for $3.95 – a spicy soup and the other one fot Seafood and Mushroom soup for $4.95. My husband got Galangal Seafood Hot Pot for $16.50. This is cooked in a clay pot and had shrimp, scallops, mussels, squid, fish, vermicelli and vegetables in a light broth. I was the one who scooped this from the container it came in. I know there was a mussel because there was a shell though it was empty. I know there were a couple of large pieces of squid. As far as the other seafood I wasn’t so sure. There seemed to be more fish than any thing else but he thought it very good.
My daughter also got steamed veggies which came as a nice assortment and a large portion. My son-in-law got Pad Thai for $9.50 which was good but not the best I’ve had. I am a very picky Pad Thai eater. I love that dish. There were a couple of shrimp and a few pieces of chicken. I saw no egg or bean curd and no peanuts which in my view peanuts are the hallmark of a good Pad Thai.
Galangal is open from Monday through Thursday 11:30a.m. to 10:30p.m.; Friday to 11:30p.m.; Saturday from 12:00p.m. to 11:30p.m. and Sunday 12:00p.m. to 10:00p.m.
There is free parking available after 5:00p.m. They offer happy hour Monday through Friday from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. when drinks are half price.
They offer a lunch special daily (18 items for $5.95 such as Grilled Pork and Noodles and Pineapple Fried Rice). For an additional $4.00 you can have soup, an appetizer and dessert as part of your lunch special.
I would certainly order from Galangal again. The prices are reasonable for the area and the food was quite good though falling short of excellent.
