Free Tax USA.com – Good Tax Filing Website

BBB, Tax Software 2008

The tax filing website I use is Free Tax USA.com. It is good website to fill out your tax return. The website does not charge you anything if your annual adjusted gross income (AGI) is $54,000 or less and if you live in any of these states: Alabama, Mississippi, Arizona, Missouri, California, Nebraska, Colorado, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Georgia, North Carolina, Idaho, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Indiana, Oregon, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, South Carolina, Louisiana, Utah, Maryland, Virginia, and Michigan. The website says Delaware, New Mexico, Iowa, and West Virginia are coming soon.

If you do not meet the requirements you can still file a tax return using the website, but the cost is $9.95. A disadvantage is you have to pay $9.95 to fill out a state tax return. But that is optional.

Most tax returns can be completed within 30 minutes. Since I just have a hourly job and some stocks it takes me less than 30 minutes to complete the forms. You can also continue an existing tax return.

According to the website, they guarantee the accuracy of their tax calculations. If you are assessed any IRS penalties and/or interest due to a calculation error in their software, they will pay the interest and penalties.

The website can direct deposit any refunds you get within in as little as 10 days.

They are an authorized IRS e-File Provider. The business (Taxhawk Inc.) that owns the website has been accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) since 10/17/2005. The BBB gave the business a satisfactory rating.

One nice thing about the website is they give you tax help on the right side of the screen. What’s really convenient is the website allows you to bookmark inside their website an IRS form so you can jump back to it at another time.

You can save your tax return in pdf form or they can mail your tax return to you filled out for only $5.95.

The website can handle most types of business income. It can even handle uncommon income like gambling income, estate and trust income, and royalty income.

One person posted on tech.yahoo.com said about the site: “the most comprehensive and simple of all this websites including well known turbotax and H&R; Block. They help me file electronically and my refund was deposited in my account in 2 weeks!” The blogger at hykz.com said this about the site: “One of the best places found to file your income tax return on line is Free Tax USA where you can prepare, print and E-file your taxes with free if you qualify while living in certain states…” I have not been able to find anything really bad about the site. At least not on Google anyway.
