Free Printable Reading Logs for Kids

We hear all the time how important it is for kids to read everyday, it is also a good idea for children to keep track of their reading. It is helpful for a child, parent and teacher to know what the child is reading and how much time the child is investing in the reading.

Free printable reading logs for kids are a great way to keep track of what was read, reading logs should not be time consuming or cumbersome. It should take a child a minute or two to fill out brief information on the reading log, possibly such as: the title of the book, the time spent reading and maybe a very short comment on the book.

As a teacher, I had my students keep a reading log of what they read in class and home, I cannot tell you how many times I had a child go back into their reading log to find a title of a book they loved or they looked back to see what comments they wrote about the book. Plus it was a great way for the kids to see on paper if they were putting enough time into reading or if they needed to try and read a little more. Most of the kids really liked having their reading log once they got into a habit of using it.

Simple Free Printable Reading Logs for Kids

There are lots of links on this website but it you scroll down the page and look towards the left hand column, there are a few simple and nice free printable reading logs for kids. The first is a reading rocks chart for girls which is simply tracking the number of books read by placing a sticker in a square each time a book is read, the second is a reading rules chart for boys which is the same process as the reading rocks chart for girls. The third reading log is to keep track of the title, author and number of pages read.
