If you are in Detroit, and are in need of medical care, but can’t afford necessary services, don’t despair; there are places you can go to get help, and they won’t charge you a thing. I have listed a few of these free clinics to help you get the care that you need.

The first is the Joy-Southfield Health and Education Center, located at 18917 Joy Road in Detroit. Initial appointments are on a walk-in basis only. Appointments will only be scheduled for subsequent visits. However, Gynecology and Pediatric services ARE availably by appointment. Joy-Southfield offers preventative health screening, physical exams, vaccinations, laboratory services, diagnosis and referrals, and health education. They can be reached by phone at 313-581-7773.

St. Frances Cabrini Clinic, located at 1050 Porter Street, in Detroit. Cabrini Clinic offers primary medical care, assistance with prescriptions, laboratory services, basic home health care supplies, health education and counseling services, and referrals. Cabrini Clinic offers an open Medical Clinic on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Registration for the clinic begins one hour before the clinic opens, and only the first twenty-five patients to register will be seen. St. Vincent DePaul Health Center at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, located at 16000 Pembroke, in Detroit, provides all types of adult health services, including treatment of common medical conditions. Physicians are available on most Monday and Thursday afternoons. St. Vincent de Paul does NOT offer emergency or urgent care, immunizations, pregnancy care, care for acute heart problems, mental health care, or care for infants and children . The HUDA Clinic, located at 1605 West Davison Avenue in Detroit, is open every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. HUDA Clinic provides care for common illnesses, screenings, laboratory services, and mental health services. For more information, you may call 313-865-8446.

Detroit Community Health Connection, located at 7900 Kercheval, in Detroit. Among the services offered are care for common illnesses for people of all ages, urgent care, emergency services, and a pharmacy. Walk-in hours are Monday and Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They may be reached by phone at 313-921-5500.

CHASS Clinic (Community Health and Social Services), located at 5635 West Fort Street in Detroit. Your best bet to be seen at CHASS is to make an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted on Thursday and Friday mornings, as long as you arrive by 8:30 a.m. Among the services offered at CHASS are pediatrics, adult medical, family planning and pregnancy testing, dental, counseling services, immunizations, OB/GYN services, and WIC assistance. Casa Maria Family Services, located at 1500 Trumbull, in Detroit, provides comprehensive medical care for all ages. Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 am. Detroit Health Care for the Homeless, located at 10 Peterboro or 2395 West Grand in Detroit, offers ALL services for the homeless citizens of greater Detroit.
