“Free” and “Cheap” are 2 words Coloradans love to here almost as much as “Outdoor” and “Movies.” These summer film series around Denver are going to draw big crowds, but it’s not the economy stupid, it’s just good fun.
Alamo Drafthouse Aspen Grove Free Family Film Series
The Alamo Drafthouse is opening a theater in Littleton, Colorado at the end of the year, but they are warming-up the neighborhood up for the awesomeness that will prevail. The Aspen Grove Free Family Film Series will screen family favorites with a kick. It’s at 7301 S. Santa Fe Dr. in Littleton, but worth the trek from Denver. All events start at dusk (7:00 p.m.), bring a chair or their will be chairs available for rent.
June 13 is “The Muppets” Sing-Along with a bounce house, sky diving Muppets, a trivia contest, a Muppet photo booth and portrait competition. Boulder’s Avery Brewing will be on hand with $2 beers that will benefit the Loving Hugs organization. You can also bring gently used stuffed animals to donate.
June 20 is “Pirates of the Caribbean” hosted by Captain Jack Sparrow, with a ship wreck, bounce house and face painting. Loveland’s Grimm Brothers will have $2 beers, benefiting the South Platte Valley Humane Society.
June 27 is “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” for ‘The Ultimate Willy Wonka Party.’ Chocolate fountains and bubbles, those crazy bubbles everywhere, and somewhere a winning golden ticket. Denver’s Great Divide Brewing will have $2 beers to benefit the South Platte Valley Humane Society.
July 11 is a sing along for “Annie,” but this is the ‘Annie Bark-Along,’ because pets are family too. There will be an Annie look-alike contest, and even a dog costume contest. If you’re one of the first 100 to attend, you get an Annie wig. Denver’s Wynkoop Brewing will have $2 beers benefiting the Human Society.
July 25 is the main event, with a screening of “Real Steel” featuring a live Bot Battle from Robotic Clubs & Robot Breakdancers. Fort Collins’ Odell Brewing will provide the $2 beers benefiting Ameribotics.
Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse
Cinemark Theatres, aka Century Theatres, CinéArts and Tinseltown are offering their Summer Clubhouse movie series. There are 10 shows screened in the mornings for $1, but if you purchase all 10 in advance it is $5. Check the individual flyers for each of the 7 Colorado theaters participating in Aurora, Colorado Springs/Colorado Springs Tinseltown, Fort Collins, Greeley, Lakewood and Pueblo.
‘Movies in the Park’ in Denver
Denver Parks & Recreation and the Outdoor Cinema Network will present family films on their giant inflatable screen at Denver area parks, including Skyline Park, Ruby Hill, Civic Center Park, Curtis Park and Governor’s Park.
