Fourth of July Fun in South Jersey

Patriotic Songs, South Jersey

South Jersey will be full of fun and exciting things to do this Independence Day, and to make sure that you’re prepared I’ve detailed some of the best free events that you just can’t miss.

Collingswood will be bustling all day long, starting with their annual Bike Parade in Knight Park. This event is one-of-a-kind, and allows children of all ages to decorate their bikes, strollers, or wagons in patriotic fashion. Kids can enter by themselves or in groups, and prizes will be given to the most creative decorations. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the parade will begin at 10 a.m. For a little friendly competition and exercise, Knight Park is the place to be.

After the bike parade, grab some sunscreen and head over to Roberts Pool for some more fun for the kids. Water games, raft races, coin toss, watermelon games and other kids’ activities will be held, and prizes will be awarded, as well. Pool activities will begin at 2 p.m.

Finally, if you enjoy classical music, don’t miss the Collingswood Pops Orchestra with fireworks at Collingswood High School at night. The orchestra will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and play patriotic songs before and throughout the fireworks display, which is expected to start around 9:15 p.m. The Collingwood Pops are returning for their second year in a row, and are sure to put on another great show.

Residents in Washington Township can enjoy their annual parade and fireworks display starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade route will start at Washington Township High School and continue onto Hurfville-Cross Keys Rd, then Greentree Rd, Ganttown Rd, and will finally follow Hurfville-Cross Keys Rd back to the school. Fireworks will begin immediately after the parade, and are best seen from the high school football stadium. Space goes fast, so be sure to arrive early. Don’t miss out on Washington Township’s spectacular show. The fireworks are shot to music, and are definitely some of the best around.

If you are looking for some nostalgic entertainment, look no further than Cherry Hill this year. The program, which is held at Cherry Hill High School West and begins at 8 p.m., features Beatlemania Now, a tribute to The Beatles. Come on out and relive the 60’s with this enjoyable group. Hot dogs, pretzels, ice cream, and water ice will be available, but as always guests are welcome to bring their own snacks. The concert will of course be followed by a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. For a fun and relaxing way to celebrate this Fourth of July, Cherry Hill is the best spot in town.

Finally, for those with a taste for classic rock, the 9th annual Let Freedom Rock Fest will take place at Cooper River Park. The event will start at 5 p.m. and features musical guests Foghat and Marshall Tucker Band with an opening performance by The Dead Poets. The event is sponsored by 102.9 WMGK, and many DJs will be in attendance to meet the crowd. There will be lots of freebies given away, and refreshments are also available. The night will end with a phenomenal fireworks show over the river. Bring a lawn chair and blanket, and enjoy an evening of rock along the beautiful Cooper River to kick off the summer.

With all the events in South Jersey this 4th of July, it may be hard to pick just one. No matter which you do decide on, though, you are guaranteed to be in for a great time.
