Father’s Day crafts are great things for kids to make to show how much they love Dad on Father’s Day. Sure, they can buy something in a store, wrap it up nicely and give that to Dad for Father’s Day. But, a gift made with love by their son or daughter is usually much more appreciated and loved by Dad. Here are a few Father’s Day crafts that I’ve made with the kids I used to teach and, yes, Dad loved them.

Dad’s Own Photograph Album

This is a very easy to make Father’s Day craft for younger children and it’s a gift Dad will treasure for years to come.

Materials – blank book, glue, photographs, colored pencils or crayons, decorative items like glitter, stars, and stickers – at any craft shop or stationary store.

Buy a blank book at any stationary or craft shop. There are some really cool books around with footballs, cars, bikes, places to visit etc. on the cover.

1. Have your child collect all the photos he or she can find of him/her with Dad.

2. Let him/her stick the photos in the ‘album’ using glue (glue sticks are better for younger children).

3. When all the photos are in the ‘album’, your child can write funny captions for each photograph (have an adult help if writing is still difficult for your child).

4. Your child can decorate every page, with glitter, stars, stickers, little drawings, anything they want to add.

5. Make a label to stick on the front cover of the book that says “Dad’s Photograph Album”, and you have a cool, unusual Father’s Day gift for Dad.Dad’s Personalized Bookmarks

This one is the easiest of the Father’s Day crafts I’ve made. It only takes a few minutes yet, if Dad is a reader, is a Father’s Day craft that Dad can use and enjoy.

Materials – stiff cardboard, colored pencils, pieces of ribbon, glue, glitter, stars, stickers, photos etc. – at any craft shop or stationary store.

1. Cut out the stiff cardboard in several thin oblongs around 5 inches x 2 inches. Punch a hole in the top of each oblong and tie a piece of ribbon through it leaving the ribbon dangling on the top of the card to make a kind of tail.
2. Your child can then decorate the pieces of card with photos, glitter, stickers, draw pictures, write Dad’s name, anything he or she wants.
3. When the ‘bookmarks’ have been decorated, if you don’t have a laminating machine, take them to any Kinko’s or photocopying shop and they will laminate them for you for only $1 to $2. And, voila, some very cool bookmarks that Dad can use over and over again.

Dad’s Nail and Screws Containers

If Dad is anything like my Dad is, he spends a lot of time making things. This is great, but it usually means he has nuts, bolts, screws, nails and everything else he uses scattered all over the garage or his work room. A very cute and useful Father’s Day craft is to make him some containers to keep everything in. This is also a very cheap Father’s Day craft, but one that your child will love doing.

Materials – Ten to fifteen empty jars in various sizes, all with screw on lids (use empty jam, dip, salsa, mayonnaise jars etc). Stick-on 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch blank labels. Glue, stickers, paint, photographs, decorative items, black marker pen – at any craft or stationary shop.

1. Make sure your child first cleans all the jars properly (a great way to teach your child about correct cleaning).
2. On each blank label, have your child write “Dad’s 1 inch Nails”, “Dad’s Bolts”, “Dad’s 2 inch Screws” etc.
3. Decorate each label around the edges with drawings, stickers, etc.
4. You can also stick stickers on the jar and on the lid, anything your child wants to do as it is his/her Father’s Day craft.
5. When each jar is decorated, you have some functional, cute looking containers that will help your husband/ dad/ friend keep all his building and fixing supplies in a tidy, easy to find place.

Dad’s Business Cards.

An easy but very professional looking Father’s Day craft is to make business cards for Dad.

Materials – a box of blank business card sheets, that you can print from any computer. Available at office supply shops.

1. This is one of the easiest Father’s Day crafts to do, and one of the least messy as all it requires is a computer, printer and some sheets of business card paper.

2. Read the instructions that come with the business card sheets, as they will tell you which templates to use on Microsoft Office (or other graphic programs) to create Dad’s business cards.

3. Pull up the correct template, and then let your child go to town designing various business cards for Dad. He/she can do funny ones, serious ones, professional ones etc. (With younger kids, just make sure Dad’s name, address and phone number is correct before printing).

4. When the designs are finished, if you have a young child, print out the cards for him/her. Then help your child press out the business cards from the sheets of paper.

5. Once the cards are finished, your child can even decorate a business card holder, or a business card sized box, so that Dad also has a cute place to keep his cards in.With these four simple Father’s Day crafts, your son, daughter or friend can make some inexpensive, yet fun gifts for Dad. Dad will love these Father’s Day crafts as he will see what thought and effort were put into them. So much better than just buying something at a shop. Happy Father’s Day!
