Homemade Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Father's Day Messages

Father’s Day is fast approaching. As a father of four, I can tell you the meaningful gifts are the ones made at home. Sure, you can go out and spend lots of money on a gift for fathers day, but the homemade ones mean the most because they come from the heart. Here are a few homemade Father’s Day gift ideas that are easy to make at home that my kids have made for me.

The first is a bird house. You will need a 1″ x 8″ x 8 foot piece of pine board , finishing nails, hand saw, drill with 2″ hole punch, tape measure, and hammer. Cut the board into the following pieces. Cut 2 pieces 6″ x 8″ ; these are the front and back. Cut 2 pieces 8″ x 12″; these are the sides. Cut 1 piece 7″ x 12″; this is the bottom. Cut 1 piece 9″ x 14″; this is the top. Drill a 2″ hole in the center of the front piece. Take the front and back pieces and lay them on their side. The side measures 8″. Place a side piece over the front and back pieces flush with the edges. Nail into place. Flip it over and nail on the other side. Flip onto the top and nail the bottom flush with the edges. Place on the bottom and center the top piece with a 1″ overhang all the way around. Nail it into place. Paint the bird house to your liking. Place the birdhouse on a fence post or hang up and enjoy the birds.

Next, you can make a picture collage for your dad. Find some photographs of the kids doing things with dad, important events, and just good times. Using a photo glue stick, glue them to a 16″ x 24″ piece of construction paper. Have the kids write messages to their father below and between the pictures. Decorate with the kids drawings, hand prints, and things your dad likes. One idea is to use scrap booking stickers with dads in mind. Once it is dry, frame in a 16″ x 24″ picture frame.

Another idea is to make a homemade Father’s Day card. Have each of the kids take a 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of construction paper and make their own card. Let them be creative and draw whatever they want for their father. These are the most fun to receive from my children and I always cherish each and every one of them.

Finally, the most important gift you can give to your dad on Father’s Day is a hug and a kiss. If your dad is like me, he got his most important Father’s Day gift when you were born, and knowing you love him is all the gift he needs. Have a happy Father’s Day.
