Fort Sill’s MWR Offers Fun for the Whole Family

Fort Sill’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (better known as MWR) exists to help offer leisure time activities that military families can enjoy. MWR has many things planned for a summer full of fun. Here is what is going on in the near future.

Scuba diving certification classes are being offered at the Rinehart Gym. MWR, in conjunction with Dive Pros will offer new classes beginning on July 7th and continuing through July 23rd. The sessions consist of both classroom lessons on Monday evenings and pool time on Saturday mornings.

Your favorite movies may be showing in a Ft. Sill neighborhood near you! MWR takes a twenty-foot screen to Geronimo Acres on July 27th at 6:30 pm. Popcorn, candy, drinks, and insect repellent wipes will be sold, benefiting the single soldiers fund. Other movie nights and their locations are August 31st at Medicine Bluff, September 28th at Old Post Quadrangle, and October 19th at the 434th Field Artillery Brigade.

On July 28th the United States Army Soldier Show comes to Fort Sill. This live musical review features active duty soldiers who have a knack for performing and entertaining. They travel the world entertaining military communities. Performances are set for July 28th at 2:00 pm and July 29th at 7:30 pm at the Sheridan Theater. There will be a command performance July 28th at 7:00 pm.

August 4th is the evening that The Patriot Club will host “The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers Talent and Fashion Show” at 7:00 pm. Some of Fort Sill’s most talented musicians, dancers, singers, and comedians will have their talents showcased. There is a $2 charge at the door.

Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area (LETRA) is the location for a Tropical Beach Bash on August 26th. Several special events are scheduled including a kids fishing derby, dominoes tournament, dance contest, talent contest, and sexy legs contest. Brisa Tropical DJ Taino will be providing the music. This event is open to all.

Nye Library is offering a summer reading program for children. The theme of this summer’s program in conjunction with the state centennial is Oklahoma Kids: A Kaleidoscope. The reading program is free and will feature themes such as Fort Sill and the Army, cowboys and Indians, and Oklahoma state animals. Several crafts are also planned.

There is so much to do in the Fort Sill community this summer. Everyone is sure to find something that they can enjoy.
