Fantastic Winter Activities in Bozeman, Montana

Bozeman, Bozeman Montana, Snow Boarding

The town of Bozeman, Montana is one of the sweetest places in Montana. The town is nestled is surrounded by mountain ranges ideal for skiing, cross-country skiing and snow boarding. Bridger Bowl is a popular ski resort. There are numerous activities during the Winter months centered on outdoor activities. Bozeman has trams to and from the ski hill for kids and adults. All of the hotels and motels have information about the hourly trams on the weekends or during the holidays.

The best thing about the town of Bozeman is the downtown area . The food is great and the businesses are friendly. Each and every time I have visited Bozeman during the Winter, the sidewalks are well maintained and the roads are routinely cleared. It is a great town to walk around and simply enjoy the ambiance of a small mountain town.

The town of Bozeman is home to Montana State University. The town definitely has a feeling of college town life, but also has a thriving business section. Bozeman is one area of Montana where the economy is doing just fine. I do have a prejudice about Bozeman because my youngest son was born there. The town has attracted some of the best physicians in the U.S. and so I traveled some 90 miles each way to have a particular doctors’ expertise.

Bozeman is also home to the Museum of the Rockies. This museum has had some of the greatest collections on dinosaurs and early history of the state. The Planetarium has great shows on astronomy and some fun light/music shows. Some 16 years ago, the museum hosted some dinosaur robotics on loan from Japan. These huge creatures made sounds and movement like one would imagine the real dinosaurs would have made. The exhibit was in cooperation with the museum authority on dinosaurs who has continued his quest to understand and educate the public about dinosaurs. Montana has become a national treasure of dinosaur remains. Most people in Montana are proud of this national distinction.

Another great feature of Bozeman is its close proximity to Chico Hot Springs located in the town of Pray, Montana. Chico Hot Springs has sleeping accomodations in the main building which houses the hot spring pool. It also has a motel section which accommodates families for vacations. The food at Chico is above the average. I enjoy everything they prepare.

I particularly like the orange dessert. The recipe is quite simple. You remove the top of the orange, remove the pulp and combine a little of the pulp with vanilla ice cream. Separately you melt dark sweet chocolate and before it hardens pour it into the gored orange and dump out the excess. The chocolate only lines the orange. Set in the freezer to get it to harden quickly. Fill the chocolate lined orange with the ice cream. Place a heaping spoonful of whip cream on top. Douse the topping with some sherry or other alcohol and light it with a match or lighter. Viola! a dessert you will remember.

The facilities at Chico Hot Springs are well maintained. The bathrooms are immaculate. The pool is drained each night and there are no funny chemicals in the water. All you get is natural, fresh hot spring water from the area surrounding Chico. I am particularly sensitive to chemicals, so I can heartily recommend this place for sensitive skin people. There is a refreshment and snack bar in the pool area for any kind of pool side enjoyment. The fun and excitement of the winter can be enjoyed everyday at Chico Hot Springs. It is a beautiful 45 mile drive from Bozeman and worth every single mile.
