Famous Houstonians Born in March

Houston is a great place to live and grow up. We have great schools and a variety of cultural activities available. I can not help but think Houston may have something in the water that contributes to the abundance of famous people who have been born and raised here. There are several famous Houstonians who were born in the month of March. Those born March 1st through 20th are Pisces and the remainder of the month is devoted to the Aries. If you were born in the month of May, do you share some characteristics to these famous Houstonians:

Lil Flip, born on the 3rd celebrates his 29th birthday this year. Originally named Wesley Eric Weston, Jr., Lil Flip is more easily recognized by the stage name he took. He is a rapper who got his start in Houston now records with Sony Records. He currently has a seven record discography including The Leprechaun, Undaground Legend, U Gotta Feel Me, I Need Mine, Respect Me, Underground Legend 2 and the recently released Ahead of My Time.

Lil Flip shares his birthday with the lovely Kim Smith, a model and actress who turns 27 this year. Her face has graced some of the most recognized fashion magazines in the world and she has been featured in ad campaigns for numerous big name businesses. She has also appeared in several music videos including ones for ‘N Sync and Aerosmith.

March 11th is the 29th birthday for Houston R & B artist LeToya Luckett. This Grammy award winning artist started out as a member of the famous Destiny’s Child with Beyonce. Since leaving the group she has signed with Capitol Records and has pursued a successful solo career. In 2006 she was nominated for the Celebrities’ Choice Award for Best Music Video, won the Groovevolt Music Award for Best R&B; Female Performance and was nominated for the Teen Choice Awards Female Artist Breakout. In 2007 she was nominated for the NAACP Image Awards Outstanding New Artist, won the ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul Award for Top Songwriter or Publisher, was nominated for the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards Best R&B;/Soul Single and won the Urban Music Awards Best Music Video. She has delved into the world of television and movies and owns a Houston based upscale clothing store called Lady L Boutinque located in the Galleria and in Uptown Park.

Another rapper turning 29 this year on the 11th is Paul Slayton though you may know him as either The People’s Champ or Paul Wall. He started out rapping in Houston along with Chamillionaire. In 2006 he won Ozone Awards for Taste Maker, Best Rap/R&B; Collaborationand Best Rap Collaboration. In 2007 he was nominated for a Grammy Nominated for Best Rap Performance as a Duo or Group for “Grillz” by Nelly featuring Paul Wall, Ali & Gipp.

Natalie Zea turns 35 this year on the 17th, St. Patrick’s Day. This famous Houstonian is an actress who first became widely known when she became part of the cast of the soap opera, Passions. She has appeared in numerous other television shows and had recurring roles in The Shield and Hung. She has also appeared in film, recently filming The Other Guys.

It’s hard to believe but the Undertaker will turn 45 this year on the 24th. His real name is Mark Callaway and he was born and raised in Houston. This WWE superstar is known by generations. I remember watching him as a child and my boys grew up loving and hating him. His wrestling career is one of the best in the business, regularly holding title belts and being a huge draw for wrestling fans everywhere. His persona of the Undertaker is one of the most easily recognized and he is famous for his grand entrances and special effects.

Also on the 24th is Jim Parsons’ birthday who will turn 37. This famous Houstonian is an actor who has been involved in several film projects from 2003 and on. But he is most well known for his television shows including a recurring role in Judging Amy. For his role in The Big Bang Theory he was nominated for an Emmy in 2009 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Sean Faris will turn 28 this year on the 25th. This actor has a film career spanning ten years and including performances in Pearl Harbor, Yours, Mone and Ours and Amsterdam. He also appears in numerous television shows including Smallville, One Tree Hill, Boston Public, Life as we Know it and the Vampire Diaries. He won an MTV Movie Award for Best Fight and a Young Hollywood Award.

Also celebrating a birthday on the 25th is Lee Pace. While he was not actually born in Houston, he did move here and was raised here so we will count him as one of our own especially since he acted regularly at the Alley Theater. His career spans theater, film and television. He is most famous for his portrayal of Ned in the ABC hit show Pushing Daisies. He has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, Independent Spirit Award, Satellite Award and Emmy.

This month’s famous Houstonian birthdays include two rappers, a model, Grammy award winning singer, a wrestler and four actors.
