If eyeshadow is not your thing-you want something easier that doesn’t take two hours to apply-then eyeliner is “your thing”. Eyeliner gives your eyes definition, as well as since it comes it several different colors, you don’t have to worry about lack of interest for your eye makeup. I’ll show you how you can use this versatile makeup to make your eyes pop and simply look beautiful. We’ll also go over the types of eyeliner, and tools you’ll need.
Types of Eyeliners
Cream eyeliner
Cream eyeliner is super thick and luxurious and applies smooth. If made cheaply, though, cream eyeliner may melt a little and make you look sloppy. The benefit though is it tends to be very pigmented which means excellent non-black colors.
Gel eyeliner is very, very similar to cream eyeliner but it dries a little better, is a little harder to apply, and is slightly stickier. The benefit is it stays and creates a very precise line that doesn’t look strange when it’s applied thick.
Automatic Pencil Eyeliner
Automatic pencil eyeliner is great, though it doesn’t look quite as clean as gel or cream would, but it’s great if you don’t have the time to create the precise line that gel and cream eyeliner demand. It looks soft and beautiful unlike the other three when blended out at the edges.
Pencil Eyeliner
Pencil eyeliner is great if you’re a smudger, it creates a light smudge that looks lovely. The nice thing is it looks natural and can be applied chunky (when it’s not sharpened) or precise (when it is sharpened), and though the line is not as clean, it’s an easy way to create a sharp line that an automatic pencil can’t. This is great because it’s so versatile.
This is great if you want a very thin line for slight definition and you’re on a budget. Of course, you can apply it thick, but it won’t look as good as cream or gel eyeliner would. But if you just want your eyes to look subtly striking, this is great; just make sure it’s waterproof. Since it’s pretty easy to make, makeup brands love to sell it so it’s pretty abundant. However, it mainly comes in black.
Eyeliner Techniques
The Sultry Lower Lid Look
If you’re in the mood to look easily sultry without looking unnatural which a smoky eye can sometimes come off with, take a pencil or automatic pencil eyeliner in the color of your eyes but deeper, (so if you have blue eyes, try an indigo color) or a dark grey/ charcoal color, make a thin line on your index or middle finger and smudge it out very slightly with your thumb. Apply that under your eye for a sultry look that looks beautiful with hardly any time.
The Wing
This look that’s suddenly gained a lot of popularity lately is the 40’s wing. Take a black eyeliner in cream, gel, or precise liquid and start very, very thinly from the inner corner and get gradually thicker until you have about a centimeter thickness at the outer corner. Stop at the end of your eye. Now, take your eyeliner and draw a thin triangle outline by starting from the outer edge of that thick eyeliner line, extending it out and up in (remember) a thin line and then abruptly angling it in back into the inner edge of that thick eyeliner line. Then simply fill it in and you’ve got a wing.
The Double Wing
To make you look like you have lovely, flirty eyelashes, make a relatively thin line consistently across your lower lid. Once you get to the edge, extend the line (in the same thickness) straight out and then after about a centimeter and half curl the end of the line up. Now, draw another line on top of that other line, (not over it, on top of it), and do the exact same thing-extending it straight out from that line and curling it up. It should be a little higher. You might want to make it a little shorter than the first one just for the sake of aesthetics sake.
Lower Dots
People tend not to realize how pretty your lower lashes make you look. To accentuate them and make them appear luxurious and full, take an automatic pencil eyeliner and draw small circles with slight spaces between them. Make sure the circles are dark, however. Now go back with a smudger and smudge twice-once to the right, once to the left. If you think it needs a little more, do it with your fingers. This will make your bottom eyelashes look lavish and long.
The double liner
There are a lot of crazy colors for eyeliner these days-teal, silver and gold. These colors don’t add definition to your eyes, but if you don’t want to wear eyeshadow that make a great splash of color. To have your cake and eat it too, all you have to do is with a precise, thin tipped eyeliner brush apply very thinly some black or brown cream, gel, or liquid eyeliner only under where your eyelashes are. (So you won’t really be putting it at the inner corner of your eyes). Now, with a thicker eyeliner brush go under that eyeliner (don’t cover it up!) with the colored eyeliner. Your eyes will look defined and colorful.
