Estee Lauder Gentle Eye Makeup Remover – Water is Much Cheaper

Estee Lauder, Eye Makeup, Eye Makeup Remover, Makeup Remover

I am such a sucker for a good sales spiel. The gals at the make-up counters see me coming a mile away, I tell ya. Sometimes I come away with some great products, and tons of wonderful samples… but once in awhile I end up with a real dog. Such is the case with Estee Lauder’s Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. Grrrrr.

I admit I am not the most reliable at remembering to do the nightly ritual. Many a time I wake up with black eyes from having forgotten to go remove the old eye makeup the night before. Sue me. Part of it is just having sucky products. Going in to take off the mascara just has a tendency to remind me that I spent freakin $15.50 for 3.4oz of a substance which performs the same function as tap water. Seriously.

Estee Lauder says: This gentle, lightweight formula works quickly and gently to thoroughly remove powder eyeshadow and other eye makeup.

Yup. Lightweight is correct. So is water. Quick and Gentle? Ummm no. It is neither one of those. I have to actually scrub really hard with this so-called make-up remover to get the mascara off. That is true with both Dior Show and 2 of Estee Lauder’s own mascaras. I seriously get the same exact results with water alone.
Estee Lauder’s Gentle Eye Makeup RemoverSweeps away without leaving any oily residue–so you can reapply eye makeup immediately after use. Oil-free formula won’t damage delicate skin.

Yeah. It leaves no residue… but neither does, umm, water.

Estee Lauder’s Gentle Eye Makeup Remover is perfect for all skin types.

Dare I say it? Oh why not… Water is also perfect for all skin types!

Estee Lauder’s Gentle Eye Makeup Remover is Suitable for contact lens wearers. Ophthalmologist-tested.

So is water… OK OK OK.

Ya know what the real kicker is here? There is no ingredient list on the bottle or on the Estee Lauder website. It has no discernible scent to it. I think they’re selling us tap water for $15.50 and laughing all the way to the bank.

Do yourself a favor here folks. Go buy a cheap jar of Ponds Cold Cream for 4 bucks or something. That is gentle and actually works. If you just like the looks of expensive removers sitting on your vanity, I’ll sell ya my empty bottle of Estee Lauder’s Gentle Eye Makeup Removerhere for $8… you can fill it with…. WATER!

One Star.
