Emeril’s Homestyle Marinara Sauce: Consumer Product Review

Emeril, Home Style, Marinara, Marinara Sauce, Pasta Sauces

One of my favorite meals is pasta topped with marinara sauce. Whether it be eaten at an Italian restaurant, or cooked at home, I simply love eating pasta with marinara and other types of “red” sauces. Among the very best jarred pasta sauces that I have encountered is Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce. One of nine different Emeril’s (R) Pasta Sauces manufactured by B & G Foods, Inc, their Home Style Marinara Sauce is a delicious product that very closely resembles the types of marinara sauces that can usually only be found at Italian restaurants.

Because Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce bears the name and image of famed Television and Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse, one would expect such a product to be very flavorful and made of high- quality ingredients. Such assumptions absolutely hold true with this product. Whereas many jarred marinara and pasta sauces contain a host of artificial flavorings and fillers, all of Emeril’s (R) Pasta Sauces are made of the same basic ingredients that comprise most Italian restaurant- style sauces. The Home Style Marinara Sauce contains tomatoes, tomato puree, soybean oil, garlic, onions, salt, imported extra virgin olive oil, spices and corn syrup. This product is Kosher, Gluten- free and contains no MSG. The delicious, homemade flavor of this pasta sauce lends itself well to many types of dishes and recipes and the authentic, Italian- style consistency of Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce will have dinner guests thinking that you spent hours laboring over a hot stove preparing such a sauce.

Although my preferred method of eating Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce is straight- from- the- jar atop a steaming plate of shells pasta, I also really enjoy utilizing it as part of a Bolognese, or meat sauce. I simply brown some ground beef, drain the fat and add the Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce. When I prepare a meat sauce at home, utilizing other brands of marinara sauce, I usually have to add chopped onions and garlic or garlic powder. Not so with the Emeril’s (R) sauce. When served with a crisp garden salad and bread and butter, this pasta sauce actually rivals most Italian restaurant sauces. Besides eating this tasty sauce atop pasta, I have also found that it works very well as a pizza sauce. Sometimes, I prepare English Muffin Pizzas, with Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce and grated Parmesan or sliced American cheese. The addition of a small amount of dried basil to the jarred pasta sauce creates a truly authentic pizza parlor- type sauce that tastes phenomenal. I have also added Emeril’s (R) Home Style Marinara Sauce to meatloaf mixes, jambalaya and sausage and peppers. Virtually any type of dish that uses tomato products can be accented and improved by the addition of this product.

In addition to the Homestyle Marinara Sauce, the Emeril’s (R) line of pasta sauces includes Tomato & Basil, Eggplant & Garlic, “Kicked Up” Tomato, Roasted Garlic, Vodka, Roasted Red Pepper, Sicilian Gravy and Three Cheese varieties. A Variety 8- Pack of Emeril’s Pasta Sauces is also available. Nutritionally, Emeril’s (R) Homestyle Marinara Sauce contains 90 calories, with 40 calories from fat per 1/2 cup (125g) serving. The normal retail price of this marinara- style pasta sauce is much in- line with that of other name brand pasta sauces and the product is available at food retailers everywhere. All things considered, this food writer considers Emeril’s (R) Homestyle Marinara Sauce to be a delicious, top- quality product that is highly recommended.
