Easy Wire Rack Jewelry Holder

Magnets

Hey, girls, if Mom no longer uses that little toaster oven why not ask if you can have the wire rack from inside? Use it to decorate your room plus have an unusual earring holder – and more! Okay, you might have a little trouble envisioning an oven rack hanging on your wall, making the room more interesting, but when you finish making it you’ll see that it’s true. Go ahead and get the rack, and a few button magnets, and you’ll have the new, useful creation in no time.

Hang the wire rack on the wall, or lay it on a table, and get started making the jewelry holder that doubles as a note holder, picture display and more. Use the button magnets to hang your things on the rack. The magnets instantly stick to the oven rack and many things instantly cling to the magnets. Instead of button magnets you can use flat, square magnets. You’ll find a selection of appropriate magnets at any craft store.

It’s so easy to make the jewelry holder; simply stick the magnets to the oven rack and you’re done! Wasn’t that simple? There are many ways to apply the magnets, though, to achieve different looks. Line the magnets up in rows, leaving spaces between them to allow for the earrings and other jewelry, or randomly stick the magnets to the rack. Use many or a few magnets – depending upon the embellishments you add to the rack.

Since you’re using button magnets you can easily stick anything magnetic to the rack. Other magnets, wrought iron pieces, or metal trinkets can all be attached to beautify the earring holder. Create a theme for the piece or just attach things you like, such as mini butterflies, magnetic lighthouses or even ladybugs. No matter what the theme you can further embellish the rack by wrapping vines around the perimeter, adding tiny flowers, or using flat, wooden shapes to decorate. ]

Instead of thick magnets, like buttons or squares, use magnetic sheeting to hang pictures on the earring holder. The sheeting is sold by the sheet, or by the roll, at craft stores. Cut the sheeting, which has an adhesive backing, and use it to hang pictures, business cards, cards and more. Just peel and stick to create the finished look for your oven rack.

A clean, normal-size oven rack can be used, instead of the toaster oven rack, to make a much larger arrangement. With it you can hold a wide array of earrings, bracelets, necklaces, photos, cards, notes and more. All your friends will be in love with the finished piece when they see it so don’t be surprised if they run home and make one too! Don’t worry, though, no two ever look exactly the same.

Instead of magnets you can use miniature clothes pins to hold things in place. Use the magnets to hold the earrings and other jewelry then use the mini pins to hold photos, notes and such. Other ideas for the oven rack include using magnetic sheeting to put up a note pad, then gluing a strip of the sheeting to a pen, then using it as a message board in the kitchen. Or, use wire to connect three small toaster oven racks together, then position them to create an upside-down “u”. Stand the rack on a dresser or night stand. Hang wire earrings from the top rack, and let them dangle down to the table, or use button magnets as you did with the wall rack.

The standing rack can hold lots of different wire earrings and more, and with its tabletop design, you can also stand things on top of it. Cover a piece of cardboard in fabric and lay it on top of the rack. This will give you a place to set cuff bracelets, a standing mirror, makeup or other useful items. The standing rack can be decorated with vines, flowers, fake jewels, trinkets or other enhancements, just like the hanging rack.

If you don’t have any spare wire racks you can sometimes find small ones at a dollar-theme store or any size racks at yard sales and flea markets. If they’re a little worse for wear consider painting them any color you wish. Spray paints especially meant for metals make it easy to make the racks any number of brilliant colors. Consider making one for a friend or two; they’ll love it as much as you will!
