Easy Fourth of July Jewelry and Accessories

You’ve got all your Fourth of July decorations ready, you’ve got your red, white and blue desserts and snacks. You’ve got your patriotic flag standing outside. What’s left to do? Well, since you still have time on your hands why not make some Fourth of July jewelry and accessories? They’re fun, cheap, quick and look fabulous.

Make a choker by simply cutting a wide piece of ribbon to fit around your neck. Cut it an inch longer than you need and use adhesive Velcro as the closure. Make one type of choker by just using one piece of red, white and blue ribbon. Make a different version by using a ribbon of one color then adding accents of a different color. Some accents you could glue on include a wooden star, foam star shapes or even fake jewels. Make a smaller version to create a matching bracelet.

Buy a pack of metal hair barrette hardware and decorate them yourself. Glue on red, white and blue ribbons, bows, silk flowers, fabric shapes and similar things. While you’re at the craft store pick up post earring hardware and pin hardware. It’s easy to glue on tiny wooden stars, foam shapes, lace and bows or other accents.

Purchase a red, white or blue headband and add your own embellishments to make it a Fourth of July accessory. Glue on foam shapes, fake jewels, colored bows or ribbon, or even small, silk flowers. Wear the headband in the traditional way or wear it as a choker. If needed, make a tie for it by gluing a ribbon onto each end of the headband.

Make fun bracelets for little girls by cutting a section off of a paper towel or toilet paper roll. Cut a slit across it to make a cuff bracelet design. Glue a ribbon piece to each end so it can be tied onto the wrist. Wrap pipe cleaners around and around the cuff, using hot glue to hold them where necessary, then attach embellishments like fake jewels or tiny flowers.

Purchase tiny safety pins and slide red, white and blue beads onto them. Thread all those pins onto one larger pin and wear it on a blouse or dress, shoe or hat.

Tape a simple red, white and blue ribbon onto some things you already have to turn them into Fourth of July fashions. Try it on a belt, boots or even make a hatband. Refashion other things, too. Have a red hair bow? Use a garment tape dot to stick on a tiny, blue flower. Maybe you have a white hair bow; temporarily attach a blue lace piece with a red flower on it.

Most people decorate and celebrate for the Fourth of July but it’s also fun to dress up for the holiday. Patriotic jewelry and accessories are really cheap and easy to create so why miss out on the fun? Make some for yourself, your little girl or some of your friends.
