Easy Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs

High quality chocolate-covered peanut butter eggs are absolutely delicious, but they can be very expensive. I make candy every Easter instead of buying it, and in addition to saving a lot of money, my chocolate peanut butter eggs are better than any I have found in stores. I receive many requests and compliments, and I am willing to share my simple five-ingredient recipe along with tips for wrapping and presenting these delectable goodies that can be shaped for any holiday or occasion.

Necessary Supplies

To make easy chocolate peanut butter eggs you will need one 10-ounce bag of Hershey’s Mini Kisses, one stick of softened butter, two cups of powdered sugar, two cups of creamy high-quality peanut butter and two cups of fine graham cracker crumbs. You will also need a large mixing bowl, a mixing spoon, a fork, a small spoon, a small microwave-safe bowl for melting the chocolate, a baking sheet and waxed paper.

Hershey’s Mini Kisses are not a requirement, but they are my favorite chocolate coating for peanut butter eggs. You can use any high quality chocolate that is suitable for melting and coating candy. Premium almond bark is also an option.

Procedure

Begin by combining the softened butter, peanut butter, powdered sugar and graham crackers in a large bowl. You will end up with peanut butter filling that has the consistency of soft dough. Roll the peanut butter filling into egg shapes, and set them aside on a waxed paper covered baking sheet.

In the meantime, melt the chocolate egg coating in the microwave. It can take anywhere from one to two minutes to melt a ten ounce bag of Hershey’s Mini Kisses. They might not appear melted, but when they are hot they can be stirred until reaching the ideal consistency for coating peanut butter eggs.

Use a fork to dip the peanut butter eggs into the melted chocolate. Place them on the waxed paper, and use a small spoon to create signature swirls on top. A cursive letter C is the signature I add to my peanut butter eggs and all of my homemade chocolate-coated candies. The swirled top gives the candy a designer appearance while adding a nice finishing touch.

Lastly, place the pan of peanut butter eggs in the refrigerator or another cool location until the chocolate sets. Once the chocolate sets, the peanut butter eggs can be packaged in a creative way. Otherwise, place the candy on a pretty serving platter, and keep it covered until ready to serve.

How to Wrap and Present Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs

I recently made one dozen large peanut butter eggs for a fundraiser. I wanted to wrap them in a decorative way that would allow potential buyers to see the candy inside. I purchased small clear bags from a party supply store along with gold twist-ties and curling ribbon. I placed the chocolate peanut butter eggs in the plastic bags and secured the tops with twist ties and ribbon. I curled the ribbon with a small pair of scissors and placed all of the bags on a blue glass platter.

My chocolate peanut butter eggs looked spectacular, and I was happy with the way they turned out. They tasted even better than they looked. All of my chocolate peanut butter eggs were sold within the first half hour of the event, and I overheard people asking for more.
