Dermalogica Active Moist – Product Review

Dermalogica

Dermalogica’s Active Moist is a moisturizer designed for skin with excess oil production. True to the company’s commitment to skin health, Active Moist doesn’t contain mineral oil, lanolin, SD alcohol, fragrance or color. Oily skin types can be hesitant to use moisturizer, but this one may just change your mind.

Lightweight and oil-free, Active Moist protects the skin while providing just enough moisture. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave skin with that greasy after-feeling. Many people with oily skin avoid moisturizer in fear that it will cause breakouts or contribute to oiliness, but Active Moist actually helps correct those problems! It’s ingredients help refine skin’s texture, and it is designed to actually absorb oil throughout the day (thus eliminating that mid-day shine).

The ingredients in Active Moist are high quality and effective. Lemon, Ivy, Watercress and Burdock are all natural astringents that help purify skin and refine texture. Lavender, Mallow and Cucumber extracts are all soothing (which can help calm irritation from breakouts) and deeply hydrating. Silk Amino Acids actually improve skin’s texture, making it look smooth and healthy. Tiny “micropsonges” actually help absorb oil, and humectants draw moisture to the skin.

To use Active Moist, apply a thin later over the face and throat with light, upward strokes. It is always a good idea to splash skin with a bit of water (or toner, if you have it) before applying any moisturizer. This helps it absorb better, and keeps you from having to use too much. Apply it morning and night. It works well with Dermalogica’s Dermal Clay Cleanser, Multi-Active Toner and Skin Prep Scrub.

Use Active Moist if you experience oiliness and/or occasional breakouts. If you have acne-prone skin, this probably isn’t your best option. While it helps keep skin clear, it does not provide the medicated relief that acne needs. Drier skin types will require a heavier consistency than Active Moist provides.

Celebs and magazines have raved about Active Moist over the years. Mira Sorvino, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Amanda Bynes and Victoria Beckham are just a few of the celebrities that swear by this moisturizer. It has also been named in InStyle’s “135 Best Beauty Buys,” as well as “Best Moisturizer for Oily Skin.”

Overall, this is an excellent product for oily skin. Not too drying…not too heavy. Regular use should keep skin looking smooth and healthy. Active Moist has been available since Dermalogica began in 1986. The formula hasn’t changed one bit, which proves it’s long term effectiveness and dedicated following!
