Decorating Your Bedroom with Wood Panels

Wood Paneling

Wood paneling has always had an allure to many people in older homes. So why not bring that look into your own home? You may find that redecorating your bedroom with wood paneling is all you needed to do to bring it to life. You may have a fondness for natural stained oak or distressed cedar. Whatever your choice is you will enjoy it.

The first thing to decide outside of how the room is to be designed is just how much can you afford. The more expensive woods to decorate with are real mahogany, cherry, redwood and a few others. Hard or soft pine, oak, birch and ash are more readily accessible with the latter two better used as laminates.

Since finding wood sheets wider than four feet it is recommended that you not have a greater distance than this between the trim. Choosing trim to match can be just as daunting. The trim used where the ceiling meets the walls is advisable to use since it will hide any discrepancies in cuts made. The base trim can range from three inches up to twelve inches high. This is something for you to decide upon.

You may find this an easier task by finding someone to draw up the design for you. He or she may have a really great idea using beveled panels with a simple trim layout. This will reduce the cost for you on the wood panels and trim. Another idea to think of is having false beam installed across the ceiling to add depth to it.

The beams can be really thick or appear to barely protrude from the ceiling. An elaborate tiled layout may add a boost of flavor to your bedroom. They do not have to be matching in wood stain as the rest of the room. In fact, those tiles could have their own design and bring out more color to the bedroom.

Walnut is a really nice wood to work with and its natural coloring is not as harsh as some other woods. Used as a wainscot trim and panel area, you could leave the upper wall area bare for painting. Who says the entire room has to be done in wood? Replacing that carpeted flooring with walnut strips will encase the room and show off the furniture.

Installing a wooden encasement around the windows will show off the outside in brilliant color. You may find that a window sheer is all you need or want.

Decorating your bedroom with wood paneling will make you re-evaluate as to what you put on the walls for décor. Rethinking about adding all those pictures, candles, etc. back onto the wall will give you a better eye for decorating. Take a look at other homes online or in your area that have wooden paneled rooms. Less wall décor is usually better than over abundance.

A well planned and designed bedroom with wood paneling will always be admired. Decorate with care and thought. You will surprise yourself as to what it will turn out to look like.
