Decorating a Little Girl’s Room on a Low Budget

Apartment Decorating, Appliques, Girl's Bedroom

My family and I recently moved to a 1,200 square foot three-bedroom townhouse, and I didn’t want to spend a small fortune or invest a lot of effort in decorating a home that wasn’t really mine. The following provides information on how I decorated my little girl’s room on a low budget, and how I transformed her bedroom into a special abode. My little girl’s bedroom is somewhat small, but it isn’t lacking in comfort or character. I enjoyed decorating her bedroom and turning it into a special place just for her.

Begin With the Walls

Paint is cheap, and if you live in a home you’re allowed to paint, give the bedroom walls a fresh new coat of color. I am allowed to paint the walls of my rented townhouse apartment, but I didn’t want to. I’m living in a townhouse apartment so I don’t have to paint or do any type of maintenance. Instead I opted to purchase peel and stick Disney Princess decals for my little girl’s room. I was easily able to afford the 4 sheets of princess appliques, even on a low budget. For less than $15, these appliques made decorating my child’s bedroom extremely easy, and she loves the fanciful decorating on one wall, around the light switch, and on the door. The appliques add a bit of magic to her room, and they can be easily removed and reapplied if I should decide on using them for decorating other surfaces.

Stuffed Animal Décor

My little girl’s stuffed animals are some of her favorite toys, and they’re also great for decorating when on a low budget. If you’re working with a low decorating budget and don’t want to invest in shelving, consider buying an extra large pet net. Wal-Mart sells a low-cost pet net that easily attaches to hooks anchored into corners. This is a great way to store seldom used stuffed animals, and it’s a fantastic decorating accessory for any little girl’s bedroom.

Lighting Options

Those decorating a little girl’s room on a low budget can easily change the look of lighting without buying completely new lights. When decorating my little girl’s bedroom I changed her lampshade to a pretty pink shade that was low in price but not low in style. When decorating I also changed the glass light fixture on her bedroom ceiling. I took down the plain glass shade and replaced it with a prettier one I found at Home Depot, and I also installed pink light bulbs. This was a cheap and easy way to make the lighting look like new in her bedroom without spending much money.

Bedding

Character bedding can be quite expensive, and this didn’t fit into my low budget after moving into my townhouse apartment. Instead of going into debt for a bedspread I couldn’t afford, I embellished the bedspread my daughter already had. I sewed lace to the side edges of her comforter, and this gave it a whole new look. It made an ordinary comforter lacy and expensive looking, but it only cost a few dollars.

I also made my daughter’s bed fancier and more appealing with the addition of a few throw pillows. These inexpensive throw pillows made the bed look much more inviting, and the entire look of the bed made my little girl feel like a very special princess. A low budget didn’t stop me from decorating my little girl’s bedroom.

Windows

My little girl’s windows were covered only by mini blinds when we moved into our three bedroom townhouse apartment, and although they appeared new they didn’t completely close. She needed something more for privacy and to block daylight, but I had to work with a low budget. I purchased heavy cotton panels from Wal-Mart just like those I purchased for my son’s room. They were approximately $15, but I made them fancier. I purchased butterfly tie-backs that were under $10 to go with my bargain drapes. These metal tie-backs attached directly to the wall, and they work very well to hold back the panels during the day.

Flooring

The flooring in my little girl’s room was in good condition, but it was ordinary tan carpeting. Even with my low budget I knew I could do more when decorating my little girl’s room. I searched online and found a beautiful rug shaped like a flower, and it was perfect for decorating my little girl’s bedroom.

For less than $100 I completely changed the look of my little girl’s bedroom, and decorating didn’t strain my low budget. You can also begin decorating your little girl’s bedroom using these easy ideas, and you can easily turn your little girl’s room into a bedroom haven worthy of a little princess.
