Decorating a Little Boy’s Room on a Low Budget

Boy's Bedroom

Decorating a little boy’s bedroom can be a lot of fun, especially when you surprise your little boy with a bedroom he’s sure to love, but when on a low budget it isn’t always easy to come up with the money for decorating. The following information provides easy ways to begin decorating a little boy’s bedroom on a low budget. You’ll discover ways to give the bedroom a whole new look without spending a small fortune on decorating. It doesn’t take a lot of money when decorating a little boy’s bedroom – if you use creativity and imagination.

Windows

Window treatments don’t have to be expensive to be decorative or functional. If you’re working with a low budget, consider a set of low-cost mini-blinds and heavy cotton panels from Wal-Mart. My first step in decorating my little boy’s bedroom involved covering the windows, so I purchased a pair of dark blue panels for less than fifteen dollars. They do a fantastic job of blocking the light while closed. They also give the white bedroom a bluish cast when they’re partially opened, and this sure beats painting, especially since I’m renting and would have to prime the walls back to white before moving out.

Also, to add a little more design to the bedroom, I chose a pair of inexpensive metal tie-backs from Wal-Mart. They make opening and closing the drapery panels much easier than using the matching tie-backs that came with my low-budget drapes. At night I simply move the drapery panels from around the hook-shaped brushed nickel tie-backs and close the drapes. In the morning I hook the panels around the decorative metal tie-backs and let the sun shine in. It couldn’t be easier, and these inexpensive pieces of hardware really added a lot of class when decorating my little boy’s bedroom.

Walls

Paint is by far one of the least expensive ways to start decorating a bedroom when your budget is low, and if you can paint the walls in your little boy’s bedroom by all means take advantage of the low price of paint. When decorating I can paint my little boy’s bedroom any color I choose, but since I’m renting I really don’t want to bother. Instead I decided to begin decorating my little boy’s bedroom with inexpensive peel and stick appliques. I chose Pirates of the Caribbean appliques, and I randomly placed them around the corners of the window. For about $7 I added this fun designer touch to my little boy’s bedbedroom, and best of all it was extremely easy.

Bedding

Since I was working with a low-budget when I started decorating my little boy’s bedroom, I didn’t purchase bedding with characters. Instead I purchase a bed-in-a-bag set that included a dark blue bed skirt, pillow shams, a complete set of sheets, and a matching comforter. For less than the price of the character comforter I was able to get an entire bedding ensemble.

The bedding set was plain, and I wanted to do a little more decorating, so I purchased character pillowcases. Instead of using them as pillowcases, I cut them in half, stuffed them with pillow stuffing, and I sewed the ends closed. I was able to make four pillows out of two pillow cases, and when on a low budget this was a great way to give my little boy something special when decorating his bedbedroom.

Flooring

When you’re on a low budget and can’t afford new carpeting or flooring, clean the existing flooring and implement colorful throw rugs. I’m on a low budget, and my decorating budget wouldn’t include new flooring – even if I wasn’t renting. I purchased patterned throw rugs that look great in my little boy’s bedroom for less than $10 a piece. Shop online, and you’ll be surprised by the deals you can find when decorating your little boy’s bedroom on a budget.
