Decorating a Frog Themed Bathroom Cheap and Easy

Decorating a fun, themed bathroom is easy and inexpensive. A little investment, a little effort, and you have created a LOT of enjoyment! True, we don’t spend an extraordinary amount of time in the bathroom, (unless you are a 16 year old teenager or a 45 year old man), but decorating and personalizing your themed bathroom makes the time you do spend in there fun and cheerful.

Somebody said, “Planning is EVERYTHING!” and I believe them. With planning, you may be able to complete decorate and furnish your theme bathroom on the cheap, and still come out with a terrific finished product. In our house, we have one nautical fan and a frog freak. (The frog freak is me!)

One day, out of the blue, I decided to change the entire décor of my bathroom. Well, it helped that my husband was going to be gone overnight, but that is another story. So a quick trip to Home Depot, for 2 qts. of latex water-resistant green paint, two mini-bottles of grass color paints with their own cute and effective brushes in the caps, and a tube of epoxy glue. And, passing through the flooring aisle, I found super-cheap, super-perfect vinyl peel and stick tiles! They look just like rippling pond water! As small as most bathrooms are, buying floor tiles won’t break the bank, even the piggy bank. I stopped on my way home from there at Michael’s, the craft AMAZING store, for little flat backed colored glass marbles in greens and blues and other pond friendly colors, and a can of sealer for the pictures I was printing out of a variety of frogs. My last stop was Target. Green towels, green rug, a few cute frog accessories and an amazing frog shower curtain. This was going to be fun!

First, strip everything out of the bathroom and wash it down well with a solution of bleach and water. Wash the walls and floor especially well, to get any oils or other dirt off. Stir your paint well, and paint the walls as you need to, to cover well. While the paint is drying, hang your shower curtain, even out any bumps or cuts in your floor, and then take a break. While you are relaxing, print out a few adorable (or scientific) frog in bright, complementary colors. After the ink is surely dry, spray them evenly with the waterproof sealer, front and back.

After the paint is dry to the touch, add a few clumps of grass and reeds with the tiny bottles of lining paint. Make the grass sparingly, for example, beside the toilet on the wall, and on the end of the cabinet. Then, lay your new ‘water’ tiles, over the top of the existing layer of flooring, if you like, starting in the far corner and working your way out the door. One way to seal the seams down well is to gently walk each seam in stocking feet, and repeat the effort several times.

Lay out your accessories, and decide if you need just one more trip to the superstore to pick up a ‘few more things’. Some of the variety commonly available are toothbrush holders, shower caddies, soap dish and liquid soap dispensers, shower curtain rings, waste baskets, soaps and candles. Often, you can find theme type accessories cheaply in the kid’s section of housewares. IKEA kid’s decor area has some amazing and inexpensive bathroom decor items, too.

Now, you are ready to pull it all together! Hang the new towels in your theme bathroom. Use thumbtacks to ‘frame’ your printer pictures on the wall for interest, epoxy on the flat backed glass marbles in a water effect design on the bottom edge of the mirror, and in the corner of the medicine cabinet mirror. Sprinkle a few of the iridescent marbles on the ledge of the counter, spot glue, if desired, and toss your green grass rug on the floor, set your accessories around, and you are DONE!

See? Decorating your Frog Theme Bathroom was so easy, and so easy on the budget, you will want to take on another room before you know it!
