Danby Portable Dishwasher (#DDW1805W)

My wife and I both hate doing the dishes, especially silverware. And, as a result of that, we will run out of clean dishes before one of us finally caves in to wash them.

After a couple years of frustration and countless arguments over this I finally decided it was time to buy a dishwasher for our house (especially since we have a baby on the way). And, after some research, I opted to purchase the Danby Energy Star portable dishwasher (Model #DDW1805W).

My decision to purchase this particular model was based on one thing; price. I looked at a couple other brands and this one happened to be about $100 less. The fact others had bought it and loved it (or at least said they did in their reviews) aided me in that decision.

As is often the case when you spend $400 on an item, I did have a bit of buyer’s remorse shortly after ordering it. Mostly, I had questions about whether this dishwasher was worth the money. Would it get the dishes clean? Would it fit in my kitchen? Would it end up leaking everywhere? How hard would it be to set it up?

After using it, however, I have to say I’m perfectly happy with this appliance.

First of all, this 8-place-setting dishwasher has a nice compact design. My parents have a portable dishwasher that takes up half their kitchen and is a pain to move it to the sink when they want to use it. The Danby dishwasher fits right next to our refrigerator and takes up maybe a quarter of the space my parents’ dishwasher does. When we want to move it to the sink, we can do it with only one hand. And, that’s on a kitchen floor that is carpeted.

I’m not a huge fan of the adapter that goes on our faucet (we take it off when we aren’t doing dishes) but hooking up the dishwasher is very simple. It takes maybe a couple minutes to screw on the adapter and hook up the hoses.

One thing I found out about this particular brand is it is also relatively quiet when compared to other dishwashers. It’s a bit loud when you stand next to it but the noise doesn’t carry into other rooms.

And, despite its compact design, the dishwasher does hold quite a bit. We can’t fit some of our larger kettles in it. But, we have washed everything from dinnerware to pots and pans without any difficulty.

I should also mention at this point the dishwasher does work. Like I said, we tend not to do dishes until we run out. That means some of the plates and bowls might have some caked on food (which normally required us to scrub them). We put them in the Danby dishwasher and they come out sparkling. We couldn’t even get them that clean if we did them by hand.

I’m going to be paying this purchase off for a couple of months but it is well worth the money I spent. If you are looking to buy a dishwasher, I would definitely recommend this model.
