Dallas Sci-Fi Expo Hosts “Back to the Future” Reunion and “Walking Dead” Guests
The Dallas Sci-Fi Expo this year brought out a wide array of media and comic book guests. To say there was something for everyone would be an understatement. Whether you are a child of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, or 2000s, the annual event was determined to satisfy your cravings.
12,000 enthusiasts crowded the Irving Convention Center on February 9 and 10 with plans to meet their favorite celebrities. Sci-Fi Expo served as a reunion spot of sorts for a couple of different hit movies and television shows. Many other guests from “TRON,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” the “Transformers” movies, “Star Trek” lined the aisles and autograph room found on the fourth floor of the huge venue.
“Back to the Future” stars Christopher Lloyd (“Dr. Emmett Brown”), Lea Thompson (“Lorraine Baines”), and Claudia Wells (the original “Jennifer Parker”) were all on site signing autographs, greeting fans, taking pictures, and participating in a question and answer session. “Battlestar Galactica” addicts had the opportunity to meet the great Edward James Olmos (“Commander William Adama”), Tricia Helfer (“Number Six”), and James Callis (“Dr. Gaius Baltar”). They also took part in a crowded question and answer session.
Zombie lovers were treated to an opportunity to meet the stars of one of televisions hottest shows right now. Actors Emma Bell (“Amy”), Danai Gurira (“Michonne”), and Laurie Holden (“Andrea”) welcomed fans of “The Walking Dead.” They participated in a question and answer session and photo opportunities with attendees.
Comic book writers and artists were on hand to sign their works and even do custom sketches. Artists like Adam Hughes (“Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan”), George Perez (“Superman”), Jim Valentino (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), and Cynthia Martin (“Star Wars”) were just a few of the amazing talents present.
If not there to meet one of the many TV, movie, or comic book guests, your intentions were to stock up on collectibles in the convention’s cavernous exhibitor’s room. Hundreds of vendors lined the aisles and walls. They specialized in everything from comic books to action figures and replicas of different weapons from everyone’s favorite films and shows.
A new event introduced this year gave cosplayers a chance to show themselves off. A red carpet was set up so that all the costumed attendees could walk it once a day at a scheduled time. This gave people an opportunity to take posed pictures of them. This was obviously a success, gauging from the 300 to 400 individuals snapping photos of each person dressed as their favorite character.
The Dallas Sci-Fi Expo was a huge success for not only organizers Official Pix, but attendees as well. The promoters should be given praise for an event which was coordinated well. They also addressed many of the complaints people had from past shows. The Dallas Comic-Cons and Sci-Fi Expos continue to grow and get better every time.
