Creative and Practical Ways to Use Tennis Ball Containers

Tennis Ball

Those that play tennis end up with multiple ball containers. Balls that are not lost eventually wear out, and the canisters are too good to throw away. They are exceptionally sturdy and very versatile. Stop throwing away the canisters once the balls are too worn to use. Consider these creative and practical ways to use empty tennis ball containers. They are ideal for storage, traveling, crafting and more.

Begin by Covering Sharp Edges

Canisters with pull tab lids can have very sharp edges. Before using them for any purpose, cover them with duct tape. It comes in every color of the rainbow, and when using the cans for decorative purposes, the hue can be chosen accordingly. Alternately, consider cutting away the sharp metal rings, especially if they will be used by children.

Decorate the Canisters for Open Storage

If tennis ball containers will be stored in the open, begin by decorating them with wallpaper, peel-and-stick shelf paper or gift wrap. When planning to label the canisters, use a solid colored wrap. They can be decorated to coordinate with any decorating style, color or design. The possibilities are infinite. If the paper is not self adhesive, use double sided tape. Wrap that is waterproof is recommended for damp or dirty locations such as garages or basements. Tennis ball containers that are covered in vinyl wrap can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, and they will last indefinitely.

Store Small Amounts of Yarn and Needles

Those that crochet or knit can never have too many containers for storing yarn and needles. Tennis ball canisters are ideal for storing small balls of yarn. Label them according to color and gauge for easy identification. They are also ideal for holding knitting and crocheting needles of various sizes. A larger skein of yarn can be placed inside of a single container and threaded through a hole in the lid for ease of use.

Use Them to Organize Bulk Hardware

If you have lots of nails, screws and other hardware that needs to be organized, use empty tennis ball canisters to hold large amounts. Sort and store various types of hardware, and label the containers accordingly. They are far better than the flimsy cardboard boxes that nails, screws and other bulk quantities of hardware typically come in.

Create Travel Containers for Children

Kids require entertainment while traveling for long periods of time, and tennis ball containers are ideal for holding toys, craft supplies and more. Fill travel containers according to the child’s age and interests, and surprise them with something fun to do on road trips. The canisters can also be used to hold plastic zipper bags of snacks.

Store Plastic Utensils for Picnics and More

Plastic forks, knives and spoons are often sold in bags or flimsy boxes. Another fantastic way to use empty tennis ball containers is for holding plastic utensils. The canisters make transporting and storing the utensils a breeze. They will fit nicely on shelves when not in use, and they are less likely to blow away when used outdoors.
