Create Customized Flip Flops for Gift Basket Use

Do you love to make your family and friends gifts for the holidays? If so, you may want to consider making them a gift basket that contains customized flip flops and pedicure items. In my experience, customized flip flops are quick, easy and inexpensive to make. Here’s how to do it:

Supplies Needed

In order to create a pair of customized flip flops, you will need a pair of discount store flip flops, nylon fishing line, a bottle of craft glue and craft beads. You may also want to consider purchasing decorative ribbon, rhinestones or sequins. Based on my experience, you can typically purchase flip flops in bulk towards the end of the summer season. A case of 144 flip flops is likely to cost you less than $10 depending on the wholesaler. Cases of craft beads, rhinestones, sequins and ribbons are apt to cost you less than $6 each through craft or party supply shops. If you buy the items in bulk, you can make a bunch of gift baskets or just save your supplies for future use.

Decorate the Flip Flops

Once you have your supplies on hand, decide what design you want to create on the flip flops’ straps. I have found that there are two ways to add the embellishments onto the flip flops’ straps. First, you could just glue the items directly onto the straps. Second, you could also opt to string the embellishments onto nylon fishing line and wrap it around the flip flops’ straps. I’d suggest that if your design calls for bulky beads that you opt to use the nylon fishing line method. The sequins and rhinestones tend to look better if you just glue them directly onto the straps.

If you do decide to go with the nylon fishing line method, measure and cut two pieces of line for each flip flop strap. Each piece of fishing line should be long enough to wrap around one end of the flip flop strap and run to the center section of the strap. Once you have your pieces of fishing line cut, tightly tie one piece of line to the end of the strap and secure it into place with craft glue. Afterward, wrap the fishing line around the strap three times before attempting to thread your embellishments onto it.

Next, thread your embellishments onto the fishing line and wrap the line around the flip flop strap. Make sure that you do not place any beads or embellishments on the underside of the strap. Otherwise, it is apt to cause the person destine to wear the flip flops unnecessary discomfort. Once you reach the center section of the strap, tie the string and secure it into place with more craft glue. Then repeat the procedure until both sides of each flip flop strap are decorated.

Other Gift Basket Suggestions

Now that you have your crafty flip flops complete, you may be wondering what else to include in your holiday gift basket. I’d suggest that you consider including a pumice stone, inexpensive bottles of nail polish, callus remover cream and a homemade ankle bracelet. Other items that I have paired with the customized flip flops include homemade bath salts, shampoos, conditioners and soaps.
