Create a Pocket Size Tissue Case Out of Fabric for the Holidays

Outdoor Ice Skating

Unfortunately, runny noses often come with the holiday season and winter weather. As such, you may want to think about making your loved ones personalized, pocket size tissue cases out of holiday fabric. The fabric tissue cases that I am use to making are designed to hold pocket size packets of tissues. You can typically purchase an 8-piece case of pocket size tissues through discount stores for $1 each. The rest of the craft supplies needed to make the tissue cases are inexpensive as well. On average, the entire craft project is apt to cost you less than $10 and take about 60 minutes to complete. Here’s how to do it:

Supplies Needed

In order to make personalized tissue cases, you will need a package of polyester quilt batting, holiday fabric, a fabric paint pen and bias tape. In my experience, each personalized tissue case will require one 6 inch long by 8 inch wide piece of polyester quilt batting as well as two 6 inch long and 8 inch wide pieces of holiday fabric. When it comes to the holiday fabric, I would suggest selecting a material that is both comforting to the touch and festive. Great fabric options include flannel and fleece. Fabric designs that typically go over well include snowflakes, holly, penguins, poinsettias and snowmen.

Assembling the Tissue Case

Start assembling the tissue case by sandwiching the polyester batting between the two pieces of holiday fabric, right side out. Once you have all the edges lined up, baste and bind the 6 inch long edges. Afterward, fold the rectangle’s 6 inch, bound edges inward until they meet with one another in the center. Continue by using your needle and thread or sewing machine to stitch ¼ inch in from each end. Next, turn the rectangular pouch right side out and slipstitch the bound edges. At this point, you may want to think about writing the gift recipient’s name onto the tissue case with a fabric pen. Of course you could also opt to embroider the person’s name onto the fabric. The choice is yours. Once that is done, the personalized tissue case will be ready for use. In order to use the case, simply insert one of the pocket size tissue packs into the fabric pocket. That is all that there is to it.

Packaging Ideas

Now that you’ve finished creating the personalized tissue case, you may be wondering how to present it to your loved one. I have found that the tissue cases make great stocking stuffers. They also make a wonderful addition to get well soon gift baskets. If you do decide to go with the get well soon gift baskets, I’d suggest pairing the personalized tissue cases with such items as homemade chicken soup and cough drops.
