I’ve tried both the Oral-B Cross Action Power and the Colgate Motion Power Toothbrush within the past year and while both brushes do a fairly good job of cleaning teeth I have to say that I prefer the Colgate Motion Power Toothbrush over the Oral-B Cross Action.
The Oral-B Cross Action Power Toothbrush is thinner and lighter than the Colgate Motion, but it’s head is wider and felt bulky in my mouth. The toothbrush only holds one battery so it loses it’s power rather quickly and doesn’t clean teeth well after several weeks of use. The Oral-B Cross Action toothbrush that I bought had firm bristles, which I like better than soft bristles but they became noticeably softer after a few weeks of use.
After a couple of months the blue bristles on the Oral-B Cross Action began to become paler to signify that it was time to change the brush head. So I went out to buy a replacement head. I searched several drugstores and couldn’t find any firm bristle heads so I had to choose the soft ones, which annoyed me.
But I was really annoyed the next day when I went to change the head of the toothbrush. I realized that I needed to be a rocket scientist in order to do so. A really tiny button on the neck of toothbrush locks the head in place, and it needed to be pushed into a slot and then slid up, to unlock. It sounded simple enough, but it was really hard to do.
The button was so small and hard that I couldn’t push it in with my hands, and after a few minutes I had to use a piece of metal to do jam it into the slot. The tiny button broke off slightly and I was able to change the toothbrush head that time, but when that brush needed to be replaced a couple of months later, I couldn’t push it in at all since I’d ruined the button, so I decided to look for a new toothbrush.
The bright colors of the Colgate Motion Power Toothbrush caught my eye in a Target store one afternoon, and I decided to buy it because two were sold in one package for less than the price of one Oral-B Cross Action Power.
The Colgate Motion’s handle is bulkier than the Oral-B Cross Action because it holds two batteries. The handle, though heavier is easier to grip and it also allows the Colgate Motion to have more power for a longer amount of time.
Even though the handle is bulky, the rest of the toothbrush isn’t. The neck of the Colgate Motion is really slender and it’s curved which makes it easier to clean the teeth towards the back of my mouth. The Oral-B Cross Action’s neck was straight and I would always accidentally hit myself in the mouth with it.
I also like that the Colgate Motion’s dual action brush head is slimmer and it’s tip contains small pointed brushes which makes it easier to clean between the teeth. These bristles stay firmer for a longer amount of time too and don’t have to be replaced as often as the Oral-B Cross Action’s. When it does need to be replaced no small buttons are involved, it just has to be pulled off so that a replacement hand can be pushed into the empty slot.
My only complaint about the Colgate Motion Power Toothbrush is the fact that water seeps into the handle and it tends to mildew unless it’s shaken out immediately after use, but besides that I’m really satisfied with it. It’s user friendly and it cleans my teeth way better than the Oral-B Cross Action Power Toothbrush.
