Dear God…
This is the last time I dye my hair this month. I know I promised to stop last week, and I went ahead and dyed my locks again. I swear though this is the last time. If you promise to save my hair from falling out…I swear I will not dye it again for the rest of the month!

Okay, so last week I reviewed hair dye. I have been reviewing hair dye a lot lately…but that’s because I’m on this kick, and I keep telling myself that I will eventually get the color, with the low lights and highlights that I want. Sadly every time I go for the look, I end up with; err…something else.
This weekend I wanted to add in some more blond highlights. I was sick of using those small kits that did nothing but dye my black hair red…even though it was supposed to be dying it blond.
This is what brought me to purchasing the Clairol Herbal Essences Xtreme FX Bleach-Out Tool Kit.
The kit was big. It came in a big ol’ happy looking gorgeous box. Some hottie tottie models on the box with lovely locks and pretty highlights sold me before I even made it to the check out counter.
In The Box:
In a box this big one expects the works. Here is what I got:
-A squeeze bottle filled with some sort of stinky serum
-An amber colored plastic bottle filled with the highlighting cream
-A package of highlighting powder
-A plastic dish
-A head cap
-A hair pick tool to use with the head cap
-An applicator brush
-A head bag
-Conditioner/shampoo(MINE WAS MISSING!)
Not cool, seeing how this would be the second Herbal Essence kit that managed to forget to add the damn conditioner!
Anyhow:
I had options. I could either use the head bag and pull my hair through hundreds of tiny holes using the hair pick tool. I could use the squeeze bottle and just apply by squeezing dye out onto my hair, or I could brush on chunks using the brush.
I however went with my method of putting on gloves, and applying dye to individual strands, by dipping my fingers into the dye, and applying it to strands. This works best for me.
Setting up:
I only needed to pour the mixes into the plastic dish that came with the kit. I simply opened the top to the squeeze tube that contained the cum colored serum, the highlighting developer in the amber bottle, and the highlighting powder. I mixed them all together until I had a yellowish colored dye in the dish.
Next I applied the dye to where I wanted it to go.
I liked the dye because it was pretty much drip proof. Once I added dye to the strand I wanted it on, all I had to do was place the dyed strand back down. Hair around the dyed strand did not stick to it, so I liked the fact that I had complete control over where color went, and where it didn’t.
Wait time:
Seeing how I was applying the dye to dark dark hair, I had to wait 90 minutes or more for the color to begin to take.
Results:
As time went on, I noticed that some strands were turning a bright orange color, while others were turning a very pale yellow color.
What annoyed me most though was that color would get lighter closer to my scalp…but would not really take further down the strand. What I ended up with was the infamous checkered strand.
Bright yellow color near the scalp, orange yellow towards the middle of the strand, and black at the ends.
Seeing how I don’t cry over a bad dye job, it was not a big deal to me. It’s JUST hair. However for the prissy prom queen, this could be just as horrible as finding out you got knocked up on prom night.
Overall:
Clairol Herbal Essences Xtreme FX Bleach-Out Tool Kit SUCKS! The dye job is horrendous. I have blotches and patches of blond hair. The dye for some asinine reason only dyed what it felt like dying. It left some strands checkered, and others orange and brassy looking.
I do not recommend this to anyone…
Unless, you are going for that wacky checkerboard look.
