This weekend I attacked my hair again. This is becoming a bit of a weekend habit, and I know I should stop before my hair falls out.
However for the past month I have been trying to achieve a look I had always wanted to do, but was always afraid to try. My base color being black, with strands of blond, red, purple and blue infused throughout my head in certain areas. A little punk, yet still acceptable enough to wear to the office (maybe without the blue that is).
Anyhow, last weekend I attempted getting highlights in wild colors, only the result was not as outspoken and bold as I had imagined it would be. So once again I hit up Rite Aide, and went straight for the clearance table.
This was where I found hair dye by Clairol, Herbal Essences.
I immediately went for a color I knew I would like to add to the mix. Caramel Infusion, which is color number HL3-e.
The Color-
On the ox the color was added to someone with black hair like mine. So I expected the exact results. Basically her hair is black, and she has strands of light colored orange, or honey colored highlights. I think the models hair on the box is horrendous, and most likely photo-shopped, so I was a bit uneasy…but it’s hair… whatever, whatever. If I hated it, I’d just re-dye it.
In The Box:
This was probably the most generous hair kit I had ever gotten. Most hair kits come with an itty bitty tube of conditioner. Herbal Essence though included a very generous tube of conditioner, that would last me for the rest of the week. Most kits barely have enough in the tube for one conditioning.
Anyhow, also included was your standard squeeze dye tube, a package of powder, and a small tube of glistening highlighting cream. Again; most kits only come with that crappy powder. It was nice seeing the highlighting cream added to the mix.
The brush?
Now here was where I got pissed. This kit was NOT opened. It had the original seal on it. Herbal Essence may be generous when it comes to the large tube of conditioner…but they forgot to add in that very cool looking brush applicator to my kit.
I went ahead and dyed my hair without it. I didn’t feel like making an extra trip for a brush that most likely would of sucked anyway.
After mixing the powder, and the highlighting cream into the formula in the squeeze tube. I noticed how the dye had turned a bright red color. I was nervous, because I already had my red lights in place where I wanted them. I didn’t want to add more red! The box clearly displays Carmel colored highlights… not red!
Although I was hesitant, I went ahead and used it.
The formula was extremely runny, probably the worst dye I had ever used… it had the same consistency of a cheap lotion. I had to be extra careful when using this one.
What I liked about the dye though was that it was very to easy to see what I was dying, because of the bright red color.
Once I was done dying strands, I waited 45 minutes till rinsing. I would of waited longer, but some strands looked like they were turning a bright Ronald McDonald red color. So I panicked, and rinsed quickly.
The Results:
I was expecting bright red highlights. That was the color my hair seemed to be changing the longer I left the dye on.
After straightening my hair though, I saw the perfect caramel honey colored highlights I wanted. I found it very odd for my hair to look as if it were turning bright bright red while the dye was sitting… once rinsed to get the honey color, was strange and unexpected. I was happy with the results though.
Recommended?
It’s a yes. Clairol Herbal Essences Color, Caramel Infusion is a really nice color to add to your locks. It looks good on dark hair, and I imagine would look just as nice on light hair.
Although you may ‘think’ it’s going to dye your hair fire flame red, fear not, once rinsed you are left with a caramel color.
