Just how does ChaCha work? By simply pointing your browser to www.chacha.com, you first have the choice of either searching ChaCha’s plentiful resources on your own, or searching with a Guide, which, by the way, is completely free! There is no need to sign up, give your email address, register, or anything of that sort. Using the normal “everyday” language you speak in, you have the power to ask a live, trained professional to find information for you. Depending upon what subject your query is, you will be automatically connected with a Guide who is trained specifically on that subject and can therefore better complete your request. By speaking to a real person, you have the advantage of being able to specify and clarify the exact information that you are seeking, and you receive it in a timely manner-just a few short minutes. Rest assured that your Guide is trustworthy as they are constantly training on new keywords and subjects, and their pay is directly related to how well you rate them. After each search session, you will have the chance to rate your Guide on their performance. In addition, “The more you use ChaCha, the smarter and faster ChaCha becomes! Because ChaCha indexes all the questions that are asked and associates them with the search engines and resources used by Guides, and the links visited by the users, ChaCha knows where to look and what the best human-approved resources are for each question or topic.” (ChaCha Search Inc., 2006).

Even if you have no previous search engine or online job experience or you aren’t already an expert on a particular subject, don’t worry! ChaCha requires that each and every Guide train on keywords that interest them, and the learning is an ongoing process since Guides are allowed more keywords after “mastering” the first ones that they choose. Training is paid when you become a “Pro”, which is the second out of the three ChaCha Guide Levels. Guides should expect to be paid around $5.00 per search hour, and around $10.00 per search hour at the Elite status. It should be noted that you are only compensated for actually performing searches, and not just for being “available” to do searches. You will not be paid by paycheck, but instead, what you will receive is a ChaCha debit card that you can use just like a regular debit card. Also, in becoming a Guide, you will not be an official employee of ChaCha Search, Inc., but an Independent Contractor who files taxes accordingly.
