Celebrate the 4th of July in Columbus, OH

Celebrate the 4th of July, Columbus Oh

4th of July is just around the corner, and I bet everyone has the fireworks show in mind. But if you were like me, you would still remember vividly last year’s unpleasant scene; the long line for the bus, searching for spot to sit down, or the children hollering because of the fireworks. Well, let’s be informed this year, that beside the well known fireworks, there are other events where you can enjoy our independence day, without the nuisance of all the above.

The Doo Dah Parade
Date: July 4th 2012, Buttles Avenue (Between High St & Park St)
Admission: Free!!

What’s happening: Parade line-up begins as early as 11AM and starts at 1PM. The parade is going to take off at Buttles to Neil to Second to High to Russel and finish at Park. So, make sure you bring your chair, umbrella, sunscreen and enjoy the creativity of Short North; guaranteed will be full of funny satire, super heroes costumes, political figures and much more that are beyond your imagination.

Schedule: from 12 noon to 5PM

What’s happening: Experience and celebrate independence day the old fashion way at this re-created 19th-century village. Activities and entertainments include: grand procession, patriotic speeches, muffins baseball, a performance by Ohio Village Singers and also a community dance.

Red White and Boom fireworks (For those of you who are not convinced, and still want to go)
Date: July 3th 2012
Location: Along Scioto Mile in downtown Columbus
Admission: Free

What’s happening: The fireworks start at 10PM, but to make sure you are not bored, please make sure you are at these certain spots: Bicentennial Park (the first time it is allowed since 2007), Genoa Park, 343 Front St Pavilion, Long St, and Nationwide Boulevard because they do have some live music to entertain you.

Again, driving is not recommended as only God knows which streets they close for this event. Bus has always been my option all of these while, although the line to wait for the bus back (not forgetting the pushing and shoving) can be disastrous. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair to stay comfortable during the fireworks show. If you want to be adventurous, try going to Goodale Park instead, some say it could be a good spot too to watch the firework.
