Caritas: Helping Struggling Austin, Texas Residents & Homeless With Financial Problems

Caritas located in the downtown Austin, Texas area is a great resource for anyone who has fallen behind on their bills, needs help with getting job related skills and even has plans to help the homeless get out of their situation and back into a stable place to live. Caritas is located on 611 Neches in Austin, Texas 78701. The mailing address for Caritas is P.O. Box 1947 Austin, Texas 78767 and they are open from 9:00 to 4:00 Monday – Thursday and 9:00 to 11:00 on Friday, closing for the weekends and holidays.

Home owners or renters that need help with their bills and/or rent situation will want to call ahead and setup an appointment. You will be required to have some type of proof like a bill or an eviction notice is needed to process you into the system. Once your time/date is set try to show up on time , they are very busy most of the time and you don’t want to loose the appointment. Caritas of Austin can help you with your overdue rent, late bills, clothing, food pantry information and much more.

Anyone who is a transit or “Homeless” can benefit from stopping by Caritas of Austin also. Caritas holds a free lunch from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm everyday besides Sunday, they also hold a Saturday morning breakfast from 8:00 am to 10:00 am every Saturday. Caritas will also help out the homeless with their first month of rent and deposit to get them off the streets, some of the plans can have a waiting list if there is a lot of people already in process, but the wait is never more than 6 months. Caritas staff can also point you in the right direction for the needs they may not be able to fill themselves and always have phones open for free local calls and public men/women restrooms.

Caritas is next door to some other great Austin resources for the homeless and the Austin area Salvation Army. Austin’s ARCH ( Austin Area Resource Center ) is across the street and is open everyday of the week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm even on holidays. Austin Resource Center for the homeless offers a computer lab, laundry room, medical, clothing, and financial assistance for lost ID’s and driver licenses all for no charge. The Salvation Army also feeds daily dinners and offers temporary housing for the homeless. These 2 buildings are within one block of the Caritas front door.

Those who are ahead in life and have extra money should also stop by Caritas, they can’t survive without your donations. Money is not your only option for donating either , your time is worth more than any amount of cash. Caritas needs a lot of help with all their local lunch feedings and many other events they do for local struggling Austin, Texas residents.
