Cardiovascular Research: Magnesium Taurate

Magnesium

Back in September of ’09, I wrote an article, Try Magnesium for Trouble Sleeping at Night, because I thought some of you could benefit from a good night’s sleep. However, I failed to mention the brand name, the place I ordered it from and the cost. Sorry, I was new at the time and didn’t know I could mention brand names, etc.

Now I’m revealing everything, including all of my previous information.

The brand name is Cardiovascular Research, which is out of Concord, CA, founded in 1981, known for their professional grade health supplements. According to their website their products are independently lab tested, kosher certified and primarily marketed to individuals that are chemically sensitive.

Why is the above-mentioned information important? Because for one thing professional grade means professional’s use them! A professional is looking for something that is effective rather than inexpensive. Personally I’d rather pay a little more for something that actually works then cheap imitation’s at discount store. I prefer maximum strength over trace elements. For extra reassurance I like when I hear independently lab tested.

My website of choice is Amazon, not only for their reasonable prices, but their quality reviews. The price is $24.99, plus S&H;, 180 capsules. Pretty good deal considering the quality.

The type of magnesium I take is taurate. This is one of the more expensive types of magnesium that you usually don’t see carried in stores, I’ve only seen this particular brand at one other store. Magnesium taurate is a chelated magnesium, made up of two compounds and is absorbed better than other types of magnesium. Also, this particular amino acid has less of a laxative effect on the intestines then the more common forms of magnesium citrate, like Milk of Magnesia. Magnesium taurate is usually recommended for people with heart problems and may prevent arrythmias and also protect the heart against damage caused by heart attacks, according to Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D.

I initially started using Cardiovascular Research’s magnesium taurate because it was highly recommended on a website, www.herballure.com, by an individual who used it on a myriad of problems he was having. At least 4. However, what convinced me he was on to something was the following…. “I slept probably the best I have in years last night.” With such an enthusiastic review I just had to try this type of magnesium because I was desperately in need of something that worked. I already knew magnesium was a muscle relaxant and came to the conclusion this could be just the trick to help me fall asleep at night.

Although I didn’t have any major medical issues, for the past three years I had (in the past tense) been having trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. Since I didn’t have insurance I had to rely on alternative medicine, although I was hesitant. I’m always willing to try something, but I’m extra careful when it comes to my health. As anyone can attest to, there’s never a guarantee that any of this stuff will work, because it’s not tested by the FDA. It’s not proven. Thankfully magnesium taurate worked like a charm. Even though there isn’t scientific evidence to back this product up, I can say without hesitation it worked initially and continues to work, 4 months later.

As a follow-up, I plan to write more on my experiences, good and bad in the following months.

But for now, no more tossing and turning and waking up exhausted.
