Start this easy craft project by cutting your Cabana Stripe Shabby Chic Rug out to size. I cut mine 8X10 feet.

Tip: You can make this shabby chic rug as small as your want or larger if you choose. You can also simply measure your floor space and make your own custom sized rug.

Now, you need to fold in your rough edges about 1 inch towards the back of the canvas floor rug. All you need to do is duct tape these down since no one will see the underside of your Cabana Stripe Shabby Chic Rug.

If you prefer though you can sew this edge down with a swing machine. No sew products would also work fine.

Just keep in mind, when you iron down the edges though, make sure you place a rag between the primed canvas and your iron. The primer will melt and burn.

Now, time to personalize your Cabana Stripe Shabby Chic Rug.

First paint the entire floor rug in one coat of one color of milk paint. This will help cover the whole surface of the rug so you have a colorful surface to work on.

Now, you need to let this dry.

The next step is to use painters tape to tape of a five-inch border along the outside edges of the shabby chic rug. Then in the middle you need to tape off your cabana stripes.

I recommend taping off two-inch stripes and three-inch stripes. Space them one inch apart.

Leave the one-inch stripe the color you painted the entire rug.

Paint the 3-inch stripes in a pale shabby chic pink. You can find very cute pink milk paint at any home improvement store. Paint the 2-inch stripes out in a pale shabby chic sage green.

One of my favorite designs to paint in milk paint is a long thin stripe. You can simple tape off stripes with your painter’s tape.

Once your milk paint has dried you need remove the blue painter’s tape.

Finally it is time to apply a few coats of polyurethane to the Cabana Stripe Shabby Chic Rug. I recommend applying three coats of the polyurethane.

This will allow you to clean your Cabana Stripe Shabby Chic Rug.

Once the polyurethane has dried you are finished.
