Broadway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Disney’s Lion King

The Broadway hit, Disney’s The Lion King, is being presented at Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The phenomenal spectacle has entertained New Yorkers for ten years and is now on National Tour.

Disney’s The Lion King is a Broadway spectacular. Director Julie Taymor will bring jungle animals to life on stage along with the pulsating rhythms of the African Pridelands. The unforgettable score including the Oscar winning songs by Elton John and Tim Rice: “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” and Circle of Life.”

This is a opportunity for people in the Milwaukee to experience the excitement of a Broadway musical, without having to get on an airplane. ‘ The Milwaukee performance will be presented February 3rd through March 2nd, 2008.

Disney’s The Lion King is a popular animated film that has been staged as a Broadway Musical. Director, Julie Taymor, was challenged with bring the animated figures to life on stage, a daunting task. The feat of bringing this story to stage includes creative use of African masks, puppetry and human actors.

The Lion King is celebrating ten years of Broadway success this year. The National Tour just finished it’s run in Mexico City. The musical is, or will be, also running in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Toledo, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; Columbus, Ohio; Tampa, Florida and Washington D.C.

Disney’s The Lion King is not the only Broadway experience coming to Milwaukee. Broadway Musical, Avenue Q, and Monty Python’s Spamalot will also be coming to the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

Avenue Q The Broadway Musical will be presented February 26th through March 2nd, 2008. Avenue Q is a Broadway smash hit that won 2004 Tony Wards for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. Avenue Q is a hilarious show about trying to make it in New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. Due to mature themes, Avenue Q is best suited for ages 16 plus. Tickets for Avenue Q are $20 to $62.

Monty Python’s Spamalot will be presented April 29 to May 4, 2008. Monty Python’s Spamalot is “A new musical livingly ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Spamalot won the 2005 Tony Award for best musical. The musical tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, embarking on a quest for the Holy Grail. Along the way they find flying cows, killer rabbits and taunting Frenchmen. Tickets are $25 to $74.

Lion King Hotel Packages. Theatergoers may want to stay in the city. Hotels offering Lion King Packages include: Hilton Milwaukee City Center and the historic Pfister Hotel, The hotel packages include tickets to the musical.
