Bob Evans Snackwiches – Food Review

Bob Evans, Breakfast Meals, Breakfast Sandwich, Evans

Every once in a while, I get a hankering for a hot and tasty breakfast sandwich. While I know that the Sodium and Fat content is far from the healthiest breakfast choice, occasionally I just can’t resist a delicious egg and cheese sandwich with either pork roll or sausage. While grocery shopping recently, I spotted Bob Evans Snackwiches in the frozen food section and was intrigued. Realizing it had been quite a long time since I had indulged my craving for a really good, but bad for you breakfast sandwich, I decided to give this product a try. Here is what I learned about Bob Evans Snackwiches.

Bob Evans Snackwiches are packaged in a ten ounce box for $2.99. There are four mini sausage, egg and cheese biscuits in the box. The front of the box depicted nice sized biscuit sandwiches with a round piece of sausage, melted cheese and an egg filling between the biscuits. The biscuits looked light and fluffy. The combination of sausage, egg and cheese in between the delicious looking biscuits definitely looked as though this frozen breakfast food would satisfy my craving nicely.

Each two sandwich serving of Bob Evans Snackwiches contains a whopping four hundred and twenty calories. There is a total of twenty nine grams of Fat, one hundred and twenty five milligrams of Cholesterol, one thousand two hundred and forty milligrams of Sodium, one gram of Dietary Fiber, two grams of Sugar and fifteen grams of Protein in each serving. There is also fifteen percent of the daily recommended value of Calcium and fifteen percent of Iron in two Bob Evans Snackwiches. Obviously, the amount of Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium makes this product one that should be eaten sparingly at best.

Preparation of Bob Evans Snackwiches can be done in two ways. The mini sandwiches can be heated in the oven at three hundred and fifty degrees for forty minutes. The egg, sausage and cheese biscuits should be wrapped in aluminum foil and placed on a baking sheet in the center of the oven. This product can also be heated in the microwave, using the guide printed on the back of the box. I chose the microwave method, which I later regretted.

I was initially disappointed with Bob Evans Snackwiches as soon as I opened the box. The sandwiches were extremely tiny. Although I am fully aware that pictures of food products are often enlarged for marketing purposes, the sandwiches were much smaller than expected. I decided to prepare this product in the microwave and once I began to eat, the real disappointment set in.

I have used the microwave method in the past for preparing frozen sandwiches and breakfast meals, so I was fairly confident that this method would work well for Bob Evans Snackwiches. Unfortunately, after cooking the biscuits for the required time, the sandwiches were hot and cooked through, but very tasteless and quite unappetizing. The biscuits were very dense, but fell apart after one bite. The egg, sausage and cheese were devoid of flavor and didn’t gel together. It was simply a layer of rubbery egg, tasteless sausage and flavorless cheese.

Bob Evans Snackwiches may have tasted better if I had prepared them in a traditional oven versus the microwave, but I won’t be finding out. I was so turned off by these breakfast sandwiches that I placed the remaining two servings in the back of my freezer, which is where they will stay. I rate Bob Evans Snackwiches only a half star out of five and don’t intend to purchase this product again.
