SALVATION ARMY THIRFT STORE

Ottawa, IL. 61350
(815) 433-3817
Tuesday-Saturday: 10AM-4PM
(The thrift store is located at the side entrance at 700 Chestnut Street)

A person never knows what they might find upon entering a Salvation Army Thrift Store but treasures can be found! Anything from antiques to DVDS, furniture and paintings to the most fashionable clothing and goods usually all selling for under ten dollars. I once bought a 50 pound Roman style bust and podium from the La Salle branch that was over 40 years old for $15.The savings alone on designer name clothing can be worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Items are marked with a small piece of colored paper stating the price. Everyday a specific color is on sale for half-off. These are the items that must be moved immediately to make room for new merchandise. On Mondays all clothing is half-off! Contrarily to popular belief these stores do get a vast some of their goods from wholesalers and just not from donation.

Another large store that deals with a wide range of goods including automotive and electronic devices at very reasonable process. It has a very rural atmosphere mostly due to the large amount of fishing and hunting gear but don’t let that deter you.
Watching people get lost among the racks is fun enough and could lead to a fun game of hide and seek as you wonder this massive store. Plus who can resist Toyland?

The gentleman whom owns runs this store is an utmost gentleman and very friendly. The clothes are a little more expensive but they can do alterations on-sight very quickly and the salesman probably have over 40 years of experience! He once threw me a hundred dollars of hand-crafted silk ties for pennies on the dollar with the purchase of a suit.. Like they say “If you work for me I’ll work for you”

The Bookmouse is a small independently owned business. It doesn’t have the selection of a Walden’s or a Barnes and Noble but it does have the good prices and Theresa is very helpful, friendly and will do almost anything for a customer. She frequently brings her huge dog into and it usually sleeps behind the check-out counter.
