Best Upcoming Movies of March 2011

Check out the best upcoming movies of March 2011. From fantastical love stories to aliens, animation, and babe-tastic action, there’s sure to be some upcoming movies of March 2011 that will make you wish spring would get here a little sooner:

Best Upcoming Movies of March 2011: March 4, 2011 Release Date

Beastly – This is one of the upcoming movies of March 2011 hoping to appeal to the “Twilight” crowd. In a modernized take of “Beauty and the Beast”, the bad boy (played by the very pretty Alex Pettyfer) trades a fur coat for scars, tattoos, and a bald head. He’s also not a prince here, but a rich, rotten high school kid cursed by one of the Olsen sisters (really). So can a modern-day Belle (Vanessa Hudgens) break the spell? Who cares? Neil Patrick Harris is in it, and that’s all that matters.

Rango – Here’s one of the upcoming movies of March 2011 that I’m most looking forward to, because I believe “Rango” might just have a shot at taking Pixar down next year in the best animated feature Oscar category (if only because Pixar has made the mistake of making their big 2011 animated movie “Cars 2”). The animation is weirdly wonderful; Johnny Depp is voicing the chameleon character (who seems to have borrowed a tiny shirt from Hunter S. Thompson’s wardrobe); and it’s set in the Wild West with a cast of interesting varmints (is it just me or does the possum girl in the trailer look like Mattie from “True Grit”?).

The Adjustment Bureau – I’m also really looking forward to this sci-fi movie. Matt Damon stars as a politician who must battle the agents of Fate (the Adjustment Bureau) to change his destiny in order to be with the woman he loves, a ballerina played by Emily Blunt. So will donning toe shoes pay off for Emily Blunt the way it has for Natalie Portman? And will Matt Damon get some well-deserved recognition after his “True Grit” performance was so wrongly ignored? I really have high hopes for this one, so hopefully it doesn’t disappoint.

Battle: Los Angeles – Aliens attack L.A. in another of the biggest upcoming sci-fi movies of March 2011. So will this one have anything new to offer? I’m willing to give it a shot after the disaster that was “Skyline”, but it’s just so hard not to compare all alien invasion movies to the masterpiece that was “District 9”.

Mars Needs Moms! – March is a big month for alien movies, but this animated movie is more family-friendly fare, and moms might definitely want to take their kids to see this one. It has quite an odd premise: Martians need moms to take care of their alien kids, so they come to Earth and kidnap the mothers of ungrateful girls and boys. One boy manages to hijack a ride on ship to their planet, where he tries to rescue his mother, realizing along the way that having broccoli and bed time pushed on him constantly wasn’t so bad after all. So the weird storyline could make it fun, and there’s a lesson to be learned that parents will love.

Red Riding Hood – And here’s another of the upcoming movies of March 2011 aimed at the “Twilight” crowd (it is directed by Catherine Hardwicke). Basically Amanda Seyfried plays an older version of Red Riding Hood that just might be in love with a werewolf, while her parents have arranged for her to marry another man (and the werewolf here is definitely no Jacob). The trailer looks a bit silly to me, but it could be campy fun, and ladies will enjoy the eye candy.

Limitless – And here’s yet another of the upcoming sci-fi movies of March 2011. Bradley Cooper stars as a writer taking a new drug that makes him smarter (and, therefore, more successful). However, it has a strange, time-altering side effect, and he also finds himself pursued by mysterious antagonists. It could be silly, but it could also be one of the best movies of March with a cast that includes Robert DeNiro and plenty of lovely ladies in Elizabeth Banks, Abbie Cornish, and Anna Friel (who I could watch in anything, even “Land of the Lost”).

Paul – This is the upcoming alien movie of March that I’m most looking forward to. Shaun of the Dead” stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up again to play two UFO geeks on a road trip to visit some of the most notorious UFO hot spots in the U.S. So it would seem like a dream come true that they come across Paul, a little grey guy voiced by Seth Rogen that will eat anything from Reese’s Pieces to live birds. However, when they try to help him get back to his mother ship after escaping from a secret military base, they end up being pursued by agents that will do anything to stop E.T. from returning home. In short, it’s a rated R alien comedy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, making it the best thing since the rated R zombie comedy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules – If your kids liked the first “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” movie, then of course you’ve got to take them to see this family-friendly comedy.

Sucker Punch – Basically this movie is a about a bunch of babes with swords and machine guns (Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Carla Gugino) fighting their way through a wicked Wonderland full of dragons, robots, fighter planes, and explosions (lots of explosions). So with lots of eye candy and action, what more could a guy ask for?

So from sci-fi movies to fun family-friendly films and supernatural love stories for the ladies, there’s something for everyone in the best upcoming movies of March 2011.
