“The Vampire Diaries”
This is probably the most popular show on the CW. It is about a girl named Elena who has a vampire boyfriend, a vampire best friend, a best friend who is a witch, and a family legacy that is based on hating vampires. Teenagers and young adults are becoming more and more into not only vampire shows, but all supernatural shows and books. This is just one of many and is definitely one of the most popular.
“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”
This show is on ABC Family and was designed to raise awareness about teen pregnancy. Although some argue that it glorifies teen pregnancy, many believe that it is actually trying to prevent it. In this show, the audience sees not only the importance of safe, protected sex but also the consequences of teen pregnancy. Since it is full of drama and is kind of like a teenage soap opera, teenagers are drawn to it.
This show is also on ABC Family and is all about lies and secrets. It is about a set of twins who were separated at birth and they finally find out about each other at age sixteen. One of the twins, Emma, takes the place of her twin Sutton while Sutton finds their biological mother. A relatively new show that first aired in August of 2011, it has the perfect combination of everything a teenager is looking for in a show. If you like “Pretty Little Liars,” you will definitely enjoy this television series.
“Nikita”
This show, on the CW, is for a little bit more of a mature audience. It is more of an action television series mixed with some romance and secrets. It may even be “action” enough for men to watch. It is in its second season and is about a girl named Nikita who joins together with Alex, a girl she saved from a Division mission, to destroy Division. If you are looking for a show with a great combination of action and drama, this is the show for you.

Although they may not be the most popular shows among all television viewers, they are definitely some of the best among shows directed at young adults and teenagers not only in the New York City area but the rest of the country as well.
