Best Romantic Comedies of the Decade

Best Romantic Comedies, Romantic Comedies

Most romantic comedies surround a hero or heroine that we instantly identify with on a humanistic level. See if these Best Romantic Comedies of the Decade aren’t in part a caricature of your life.

Bridget Jones Diary (2000)

This was one of the decade’s best romantic comedies starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. By far the success of this movie was the part played by Ms. Zellweger who helped us see ourselves. She gained 20 lbs for this film, smoked occasionally, over-stressed about everything but also was a witty and charming older single searching for love.

2 Weeks Notice (2002)

This was a delightful movie with Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock that highlights the chemistry between two veteran actors who make the film huge even with a weak plot. Great comedy with supurb timing.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

A culture clash of a movie starring John Corbett and Nia Vardalis. When a very Greek family finds one of its own marrying someone from a different culture we experience and laugh about ourselves even in light of the mild bigotry. It is a movie that is as delightful as it is funny.

Meet the Parents (2000)

A funny movie about a young man who spends the weekend with his potential in-laws. This was a very funny movie. Who really cares about the couple but does the father in law and the potential suiter ever get together and make peace? Staring Ben Stiller, Terri Polo and Robert De Niro.

What Women Want (2000)

Mel Gibson, Helen Hunt and Marisa Tomei star in a fantasy type romantic comedy that intriques the audience. Very predictable but so modern and up to date in 2000. Helps us understand the difference between the sexes.

Hitch (2005)

Will Smith and Kevin James star in this film about a guy that helps men make a good first impression with women. As the so called date guru, Will carries this film with his charm and smooth delivery while trying to land a woman that has been around the block way to many times and failed at relationships with men. Lets us see the real us in a dating sort of way.

No Reservations (2007)

Catherine Zeta Jones and Aaron Eckhart star in this wonderful story about a perfectionist chef (played by Ms. Zeta Jones) who inherits a niece and falls in love with another chef (played by Mr. Eckhart). Wonderfully entertaining with great film shoots and plot.

Kate And Leopold (2001)

This is the perfect date movie starring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackson. These two veteran actors carry this all to predictable plot through numerous twist and turns keeping the audience on the edge of their seats throughout. A truly remarkable fantasy rolled into romance and comedy.

Fever Pitch (2005)

Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon and baseball all rolled into a truly remarkable romantic comedy. This is my personal favorite as I collect baseball movies. I really liked the sentimental plot about inheriting the great Boston Red Sox season tickets and his love for his team. Great story for both genders with enough for both without overload.

How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days (2003)

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey star in this story with deception and tricks that backfire on both sides. An interesting and wildly entertaining movie. Good rainy weekend flick about how we try to be deceptive but only windup deceiving ourselves when it comes to romance.
