Best Restaurants in Minneapolis: Ruth’s Chris Steak House Review

Restaurants in Minneapolis, Ruth's Chris, Seafood Gumbo

No matter where we find Ruth’s Chris Steak House (in this case, Minneapolis, Minnesota), we know we can count on quality, consistency and superior service- and the Ruth’s Chris in Minneapolis is no exception. Elegant? Undeniably! However, the restaurant staff will treat you like family, welcoming you in for an evening of relaxation and special service. When only the best will do, you’ll want to make sure to stop at this steak house.

Ruth’s Chris – Minneapolis: Atmosphere

Expect to find plenty of wooden columns, the luxury of real tablecloths and fresh flowers on each table. Be sure to look up so you don’t miss the hand-painted ceiling. If that isn’t enough to dazzle, the flickering candles on the tables and delicious smells wafting through the air are likely to complete the feeling that you’re in a top notch steak house in Minneapolis…..because you most definitely are!

Special info: Jackets aren’t required for men. You are welcome to dress up or come in casual clothing.

Ruth’s Chris restaurant in Minneapolis: menu and prices

Although you can see the menu online here: www.ruthschris.com/Menu you’ll notice an absence of prices. There is a reason for that. Beef prices do change regularly, depending on the market. If you really need to know exactly what each item costs, it is best to call ahead. Otherwise, plan on spending a minimum of $50 per person and possibly more if you have drinks, plenty of appetizers and desserts. You’ll find the cost to be well worth the price!

Of course, you’ll want to start off with appetizers and my favorite is the Seared Ahi Tuna (which does contain a touch of red, so consider yourself warned if you like your tuna well done). Savor the touches of ginger and mustard in this one and then consider tasting your dining companion’s choice – perhaps the Veal Osso Buco Ravioli, which is elevated to a superior status with its fresh mozzarella cheese, spinach and white sauce. Other options at this Minneapolis Ruth’s Chris include Louisiana Seafood Gumbo or Mushrooms Stuffed with Crabmeat.

Time to move on to salad, side dishes and those perfect steaks – or other main dish of your choice at this Minneapolis steak house. Because the main courses are also so generous at Ruth’s Chris, we tend to take it easy when it comes to salads and side dishes while dining here. You can’t go wrong with the classic Caesar Salad or even a lettuce wedge (yes, I know lettuce wedges can seem routine but not here, topped with crumbled bleu cheese and your choice of dressing). Even that common lettuce wedge is elevated to special status here!

For the side courses, this is one time when the term “steak and potatoes” is apt. Stick with the potatoes because they are prepared perfectly, whether fried or baked.

The focus of Ruth’s Chris in Minneapolis: those sublime steaks

Yes, they’ve gotten raves from diners across the country and justifiably so. Succulent, so tender you barely need the touch of a knife to cut through the meat and brimming with special flavor – that’s the best description of what you’ll find. There are a variety of portion sizes available, from the Petite Filet to the Porterhouse for Two. The Ribeye steak is USDA Prime and a favorite of ours. If you are a fan of T-bones steak, you’ll realize that the ones here are far superior to what you find in your local grocery store or even the meat market.

Special info: Steaks here are seared at 1800 degrees, way beyond what most cooks have in home kitchens. We believe this sears in the flavor while preserving the juicy tenderness of the meat at Ruth’s Chris, Minneapolis location.

Ruth’s Chris – Minneapolis location- there is more than steak here

Believe it or not, even vegetarians have a choice, with the Grilled Portobello Mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus and lemon butter. Those who prefer seafood, chicken or other meats can choose from Ahi-Tuna Stacks, Lobster Tails (market price), Fresh Maine Lobster, Lamb chops or even Veal Chops.
It is the special accents that set each main course apart from typical restaurant food. As one example, veal chops are marinated overnight before being broiled to perfection. Even the stuffed chicken breast consists of free range chicken filled with garlic herb cheese and lemon butter. The lobster tail need only some lemon and butter before being eaten.

Special tip – there are over 200 wines to choose from so be sure to look over that wine list. From reds to whites, dry to those on the sweet side, Ruth’s Chris has a wide selection of distinctive wines.

Be sure to save room for Ruth’s Chris desserts

I have to be honest and say that I don’t find the desserts to be the highlight of the evening. There is nothing wrong with any of them and they are delicious but by the time I get to dessert, I’m still reeling from the exquisite taste of those steaks, always the focus of my lunch or evenings at Ruth’s Chris. However, my husband disagrees, swooning over the Chocolate Sin Cake (aptly named), rich with Chocolate and hints of coffee. I tend to choose a relatively light dessert of seasonal berries with cream sauce or some sorbet. The Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce is also lovely.

Ruth’s Chris – Minneapolis – special features

Be sure to opt for valet parking, an impressive touch and fully complimentary. The restaurant has wheelchair access, bar dining, a full bar and is a non-smoking restaurant. Personal wines are allowed (with a corkage fee). If you’d like to arrange for a private party, call ahead for up to 60 guests. Group seating can also be arranged in the main dining room and reservations are accepted. The dress code is considered Business Casual but we saw plenty of casual mixed in with those business suits. Credit cards are accepted and takeout is available.

Special info: this is a surprisingly kid-friendly restaurant, although I wouldn’t opt to bring very young children or babies here. If your children are able to handle extended, relaxed meals and remain on good behavior, this is a fine place to take them.
