Finding a job in Wilmington can be hard for some people. Most of the job openings are for the younger crowd such as college students. A lot of older individuals don’t want to wait tables and check customers out in the mall. For them, a part time job is almost impossible to find. I have been down that road myself. Here are the best places to work part time for those of us who have “outgrown” student jobs.
(1) New Hanover County Schools
Teachers are in such a shortage in North Carolina. If you look at New Hanover School’s website you’d see at least 50 job openings all year long. If you don’t want to work full time as a teacher, do as I did and become a substitute. It pays $78 each day if you have a teaching license. If not, you only get around $55 a day. The entire process is automated. You receive a phone call each night and many times each morning informing you of openings. You get to choose which job you want to accept for the day. If you don’t want any, then no problem. It’s great working as a substitute because the lesson plans are there waiting for you, and you aren’t with the same kids each day like a full time teacher.
Hours are around 8 to 3 Monday through Friday. Sometimes there are job openings for just half days, either mornings until 12 or afternoons until 3. There are also a few schools that are year round.
(2) Banks
Banks are a very respectable place to work part time. In Wilmington, most all financial institutions have openings for tellers. Their duties include making deposits, handling money, and directing customers to the appropriate office.
Hours in most banks are 9 to 5 or 6 Monday through Friday. A lot of openings are for peak time tellers. The pay per hour is reasonable, but often schedules are not flexible.
(3) Telecommute
Working from home has become quite popular for many part time job seekers. Associated Content is a wonderful site where subscribers/members can submit unique and informative articles for payment consideration. You receive between $8 and $10 per piece accepted. Your writings are then published on Associated Content’s website.
Another popular work at home job is Ebay, but you need to know a few secrets to be successful. Sell popular items. Many people mark up their shipping costs to make profits. Others use a drop-ship method. They get items from warehouses for dirt cheap, sell them on Ebay for competitive retail prices, and have the items shipped right from the warehouse to the winning bidder. That way they make a large profit and don’t have to have any inventory in their homes.
During Christmas is the perfect time to sell items on Ebay to make profits. Just look at the PS3 that’s selling for $1000.
(4) New Hanover Health Network
The medical field is much like the education field; there is a severe shortage of staff. New Hanover Health Network has many openings for Nurses, Doctors, and Administrative Assistants. You can find job listings on their website: www.nhhn.org. Part time careers are available at hospitals and physicians’ offices. Part time salaries are very decent and hours are sometimes, but not always, flexible. Usually you’ll have the choice of working a set bracket of hours and days.
