When seeing me read a parenting magazine or website, my husband often jokes, “so are you a better parent now?” While I’m not someone who believes everything they read or jumps on the bandwagon for the “best” way to raise a child, I do think parenting websites have something valuable to offer. Some of the better sites feature recipes for picky eaters, symptom charts for sicknesses, and even contests. Of, course, there is actual parenting advice like sleeping tips and discipline ideas too. Here are my top five parenting websites.

This is definitely my favorite site. It is organized by getting pregnant, being pregnant, baby, toddler, preschooler, big kid and for you. In the baby and toddler section, there is a milestone section. This is interesting to look at to see if your child is developmentally on track and exciting milestones to expect in the future. Other great features include an ovulation calculator, baby name finder and a symptom guide for children. Additionally, there is a get answers section with expert answers by pediatricians, sleep experts and registered nurses. Of course, it is always best to check these ideas with your own pediatrician.

This website is in conjunction with both Parenting and Babytalk magazine. It has interesting articles like “Easy Birthday Cake Designs” and “No Sew Halloween Costumes.” There’s a section on baby names, recipes, fertility, pregnancy and activities. In addition, there are always contests where you can win fun prizes like toys or even trips. Also, there are several forums and blogs connected to the site. One of the things I like is the special sections for baby, toddler and child. It’s nice to have different tips for each developmental stage. Finally, there is often information on recalled baby gear.

Dr. Sears is an experienced doctor who studied at Harvard’s Medical School children’s hospital in Boston. His wife is a registered nurse. Together they have eight children and a lot of know how. The website offers education and information on breastfeeding, bottle feeding and feeding in general. There are also advice on sleeping, fussy babies, illness, skin care and more. Finally, find a resource, news and FAQ section too.

This site has a great A to Z topic section. From braces to tattling, they have information for every topic imaginable. In addition, there are guides on topics such as adoption agencies, au pairs and car safety. Also, there is a community and blog section. Finally, there’s a tool section and video area with tons of helpful information.

While this site does not have as much advice and information on it, it is a great tool for parents. There are all sorts of charts like chore, hygiene and homework charts. These charts are customizable and printable. In addition, there are tons of printable coloring pages, craft ideas and game ideas. Also, “Handipoints features HandiLand, a safe virtual world where kids adopt their own cartoon cat, play games and watch movies.” Sign up for free for many resources or upgrade your account for more tools and options for a nominal monthly or yearly fee. Finally, there is a parenting blog connected to the site with thoughtful posts.
