In my search to find a truly ergonomic mouse that relieved stress in my arm, wrist and hand, I found several good choices. All of the mice that I found relieved pain in the wrist and hand, and I enjoyed using them. Each one had multiple benefits, and sometimes it was difficult to decide which one was the best. As with all things, each one would have one or two drawbacks, and I will share all of them with you, as well.
Relief Mouse at Amazon (wired and wireless): This mouse is a vertical mouse, based on its size and shape, and how you hold it. The benefit of this mouse is that it keeps your hand and wrist in a neutral position, much like a “handshake” position. You do not have to twist your wrist over to use it, and the buttons are on the right side of the mouse. This makes them really easy to use. With this design, your thumb is on the the other side of the mouse, so it feels good to use. You don’t have to force your thumb to stay close to your pointer finger, so it relieves pain. The top of the mouse is narrow, so that your hand rests on top of it. This mouse has more options that the Joy mouse, since it comes in wired and wireless versions. This mouse is also around $20.00, and it is also a good pick based on the price and the ergonomic shape.
Handshoe Mouse, by Hippus: The handshoe mouse was really the most impressive out of all of the ergonomic mice that we tried. It was also the most expensive, at around $100 for the wired mouse, and $150 or more for the wireless mouse. The design of this mouse was truly amazing, as it cradles your hand in a neutral position, offering instant relief from repetitive strain. My only other problem with this mouse was that it is rather large. It has the portion of the mouse that your hand sits on, and then it has the molded base, or the cradle for your hand. All this material contributes to a large mouse sitting on your desk. However, it is the only mouse that I found that comes in three sizes for your hand: Small, medium or large. Now, THAT is impressive. All together, this one has the most options offered: wired or wireless, left and right hand versions, as well as three sizes for your hand.
Joy mouse, at TheGeekMart: This mouse was a neat design. It is narrow at the top, and wide at the base, so your hand rests against it. It is also at a vertical angle, which allows your wrist a natural position to extend while in use. The feel of this mouse in your hand is similar to a joy stick (see the name) but it looks a little different than a joy stick, since the top is shorter and wider. This one is probably the most inexpensive, at around $30.00, but it has the least amount of options, too. It only has right handed versions, wired versions only and comes in two different colors. The design of this mouse actually feels good in your hand. Overall: It is a great mouse for the money.
If you have not invested in an ergonomic mouse yet, I highly suggest you try one. After using an ergonomic mouse, you won’t ever use a traditional mouse again. It makes a big difference in your work day!
