Best Boutique Hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Family-Run, Luxury Accommodation That’s Still Inexpensive

As a frequent traveler, I try to stay in boutique hotels where possible. Often independently-run and unique, boutique hotels offer a traveling experience chain hotels just don’t offer. Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia is one of my most frequent destinations and, on several trips, I’ve stayed in boutique hotels in KL that have offered some of the nicest stays I’ve ever had. If, like me, you’re a boutique hotel lover, on a trip to Kuala Lumpur you must try one of these top three KL boutique hotels. They’re lovely.

Piccolo Hotel – The first boutique hotel I ever stayed in in Kuala Lumpur was the Piccolo Hotel. As a thoroughly modern girl, I like contemporary hotels, so the Piccolo’s design was right up my alley.

At the Piccolo, you’ll find guest rooms and suites that are spacious, comfortable and, above all, some of the most well-taken-care of rooms in KL. Each guest room has a 32″ flat screen TV, coffee maker, mini bar, in-room safe, electronic locks (very secure for women traveling alone), and individually controlled air conditioning.

The hotel has a superb spa, with both Western and Japanese-style massage therapy and aromatherapy. Its restaurant, Ristorante L’Opera is a romantic place for dinner, and the bar area is just about as modern and cool as it gets.

The Piccolo Hotel is in a superb location too. Slap bang in the Bukit Bintang area of Kuala Lumpur, steps from teh monorail train, top restaurants, trendy cafes and at least four massive shopping malls.

Anggun, Kuala Lumpur – The Anggun is a stunningly beautiful boutique hotel, also located in the Bukit Bintang area of Kuala Lumpur surrounded by cafes, restaurants and shopping venues. The Anggun is a particularly wonderful boutique hotel as it’s in two converted 1920s colonial houses that are just gorgeous, so you feel like you’re living in colonial-Malaysia while on a stay here.

The Anggun’s rooms have all the usual mod-cons – en suite bath, flatscreen TVs, coffee making facilities etc – but all of this is in a room with four poster beds, hardwood floors, romantic ceiling fans, and gorgeous Malay-style decor.

You mustn’t miss eating at The Anggun’s rooftop restaurant either. The atmosphere is lovely and the cuisine is superb.

Don’t miss checking out The Anggun’s website (see end of this article) as they usually offer internet rates that are much cheaper than if you book elsewhere.

Chinatown Boutique Hotel – I feature this boutique hotel as one of the best in Kuala Lumpur because of its location and inexpensive price. Located in Chinatown, a very popular destination for visitors to KL, the Chinatown Boutique Hotel is within walking distance of awesome shopping areas, some of the best street stalls in the city, markets and KL’s excellent train system.

The hotel is contemporary in style, with every room designed completely uniquely. Each guest room has Wi-Fi internet, flat screen TV, individually-controlled air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities and just about the most comfortable beds in Kuala Lumpur.

Only a couple of minutes away is KL’s most popular night market, street stalls selling superb food, and close to the bus and train stations if you’re traveling this way. With room rates beginning at only $31 a night, this KL boutique hotel is an incredible deal.
