Best Beaches in the United States: Destin, Florida

Destin, Destin Florida, Emerald Coast, Fort Walton Beach

While looking at the list of beaches that Dr.Beach listed in his “most beautiful beaches” list, I was truly shocked that Destin Beach didn’t make the cut. Not only was it not on the list for this year, I noticed that it had not made the list in the years preceding. The only reason I can think of as to why it was not listed on the beach list had to be because Dr. Beach did not visit Destin. According to IloveDestin.com, “Destin traces its immediate history to a fisherman named Captain Leonard Destin. The captain moved to the area from New London, Connecticut, around 1845 and pioneered the local fishing industry. Destin is now known as the world’s luckiest fishing village and is home to Florida’s largest fishing fleet.(IloveDestin.com)

Destin Beach was one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. Destin it located in the panhandle of Florida, it is adjacent to Fort Walton Beach. Destin beach is considered the Emerald Coast because of the beautiful “emerald” color of the Gulf of Mexico. The Emerald Coast has the most beautiful shoreline, with the whitest, softest sand any one could imagine. As you drive along Highway 98, you have the beach on one side and hundreds of beautiful beach houses on the other. The houses that line the highway are painted in typical “beach colors”, which add to the wonderful atmosphere of the wonderful beach.

Just a mile from the beach are wonderful stores, boutiques and restaurants for all to enjoy. One of the newest shopping centers in the area is Destin Commons. Destin Commons is a whimsical outdoor shopping area that is supported by hundreds of shops, with new sops opening all the time. It also features a movie theater and many restaurants. It is definitely a great destination to visit while in Destin Florida. For more information on Destin Commons visit IloveDestin.com.
